Blankenship has interest from Oregon. other than that and the Iowa kids getting interest from U of I theres not a lot of large schools after our verbals.

The 2 jucos visited for the SDSU game. Mosby will be here for the Texas A & M game.

Re: Time to discuss new recruits for 2009

Thanks for the type of post I like to see on this board, FD.

It's good to see us keeping pace with the rest of the division.

It's also good to see the early emphasis on LB. Not that we didn't know this already, but we could really be in trouble here if this next class doesn't produce some legit talent.

    [sarcasm]

Both of our JuCo commits were on K-State's list? No way.

Re: Time to discuss new recruits for 2009

I will say mizzou and NU have some stacked looking classes with 3 stars as the minimum. I believe Mizzou was ranked 25th overall(tops in the north).

However these lists will probably change drastically over the next few months.

I think Beau Blankenship could be our steal so far...I see Scout bumped him up to a 3 Star. The kids fast and I love his attitude. I don't see any of the 4 star kids from Iowa as any better than Beau. I'm hoping he can grow a few more inches though and we make him a FS.

and more importantly than that, i'll make sure your tailgating chair makes it back down for the NU game.

Re: Time to discuss new recruits for 2009

We're better situated at defensive end than I thought we were. According to Gene on his call-in radio show last night:

In 2009, we'll have two redshirt freshmen at DE, Roosevelt Maggitt and Cleon Laing. Laing is the bigger of the two, Gene said, but added that Roosevelt (iirc) will reach the 250-255 lb. range.

When asked about rush DEs and ISU's outside pass rush, Gene said both of these kids are athletic speed guys. So, both are suited to pass rushing.

Also for 2009, Gene mentioned the commitment from the California JC kid (so, guess he's pegged for DE, not the interior DL).

Moreover, Gene said we'll sign two DEs in the upcoming recruiting class.

So, DE in 2009 looks like this, I think:

    ----------

    Seniors (2):

    Rashawn Parker
    Christopher Lyle

    Junior (1):

JUCO DE (two years to play, correct?)

    Redshirt Freshmen (2):

    Cleon Laing
    Roosevelt Maggitt

    Rookie Freshmen (2):

    Two to be signed

    ----------

That's seven kids at DE, but five have no experience at the Div. I level. Well, there's opportunity, then, hopefully, to sign a couple of top DEs in the 2009 class.

Re: Time to discuss new recruits for 2009

Maggitt is a stud, he should be a good player for us. Don't expect too much out of Laing right away, but hopefully he'll develop into a good player for us in the future. Expect to see Lyle and Parker play a ton of minutes and hopefully neither of them get hurt.

Without tipping off our K-State lurkers, does anyone in the know have any idea if we are seriously looking at an O-lineman from SW Minnesota?

Are Parker and Lyle good enough against the run that we can play them both on most downs?

Re: Time to discuss new recruits for 2009

I don't see much of a choice, unless the juco is good enough to start off the bat. Maybe Slifka can step up? he played DE in the spring game I think due to injuries and did ok...

Can't reveal details because it's premium board info, but there are a few 5.6-5.7 guys left with offers from us who have not verbaled. Maybe we'll get lucky with two or three of them. Seems like Chiz is concentrating on defense.
