Not too bad, especially for the average user. I personally wouldn't want to run Vista on less than 4GB of memory. Processors not all that great, you can get way faster for not much more money. Video card is very blah. For just an average user it would be sufficient though.

anything over 3GB of RAM on 32bit vista is wasted if you've got a good video card

I apologize, I'm so used to dealing with only 64bit new computers at work, you are correct on that point.

64bit OS's are nice for scads of memory. But not so nice for program compatibility.

Now that I think about it, why would you say over 3gb is wasted?

From what I remember, the 32bit os can address is the 4GB RAM, but the video RAM is also included in that count. A good video card will have 512MB or 1GB of RAM on it.

Most PC's have 2 memory slots, so the 4GB is in 2GB modules and you would certainly end up wasting a bit of that with a good video card.

Either way though you'd be getting an extra 1gb of memory to play with, say you have a 512mb card, you'll get 2.5gb or 3.5gb roughly right? Shouldn't matter what size the module is should it?

Does anybody know anything about the ATSC tuner? Does it have an on-board hardware MPEG decoder, or is it a software decoder that dumps all the processing load on the system processor?

    Re: Need a cheap PC?

On my home built PC (Vista 32), I started off with 2gb and went up to 4gb and honestly can't really tell the difference. It ran fine with 2gb but the memory was so cheap I decided to add a couple. I know that part of that is being wasted but memory now is super cheap for what you get.

Hmm... I don't really need a computer but that looks like a pretty solid machine for the price.

It doesn't specify a brand or anything, but I'd guess it's software decoding if only because they're cheaper.
