Prognostication for the rest of 08

After the UNLV game, I was extremely disappointed. However, not for the same reasons as many here. I think this team found itself in the second half of that game, and I think it is going to carry over for the rest of the season. My reason for the extreme disappointment is that I feel we will do better in conference than most expect, but losing these last two game are going to hurt our overall record and bowl appeal, when we had no business losing them in the first place.

Here are some of my main reasons for my optimism:

    - Pass rush. For the first time this season, I saw a guy who could actually get some conistent pressure on the QB in Chris Lyle. That is HUGE!! He needs to be starting, and playing as much as possible.

    - JJ Bass. I still think ARob is our bast back, but Bass getting it going is huge, as you need two backs that can get it done, even when both are healthy. Especially since our Oline is never going to be great at run blocking, meaning ARob and JJ will both take a pounding.

    - AA. Arnaud is a star in the making, write it down. I felt like he has done a good job of leading the team up to this point all season, but in the second half of that game he simply put the team on his shoulders. It's time to give him the reigns and end the QB rotation. Use Bates situationally, although I am not sure what he gives right now that AA isn't doing better.

That being said, here is my rest of the season picks:

Kansas- Win. I know, call me crazy, but I have a very good feeling about this game. Not only that, but I think we will win this one by 10 or more. The offense will play its first complete game of the season. KU has struggled running the ball, which will help our defense.

Baylor- Win. This will be a close game, but we will get it done on the road finally.

Nebraska- Win. The guys will amped for this game. NU is not the NU of old, even with Pelini.

TAMU- Win. A&M will be realing coming into this game, and we have them on homecoming.

OSU- Loss. I don't think we get it done on the road against a very good QB in Zac Robinson.

CU- Loss. CU is better than most of us thought. We will give them a game but fall short in the end.

Mizzou- Loss. My heart says win, but my brain says loss. Again, we will play them tough at home, but they have too much firepower.

KSU- Win. I expect KSU to be winless in the conference at this point. We will roll into Manhattan and beat them convincingly to secure a bowl berth.

There you go, 5-3 in conference, 7-5 overall. What could have been had we not lost games we shouldn't have to against Iowa and UNLV. I still think we get a decent bowl game, the Alamo, Sun, or the Gator, all of which would be great destinations.

I completely agree with your first three points, in fact I literally posted them on clonechronicles like 30 minutes ago. Well played.

I wish I could see the rest of the season finish that way and I would really love it. Here's hoping.

I think we'd be extremely lucky to get to 4-4 in the Big 12.

Under Chizik, we've played better when our games are on Versus. Let's hope that the momentum from the second half of the UNLV game carries over and gets us a win against Kansas.

I don't see how anyone can predict a road win. I think we'll get aTm and Nebraska at home if we play well. Did you see Baylor at UCONN the other night? They are much better than anyone thought...

    sorry to go off here..

but WTH does playing on Versus have anything to do with how we play?

I liked the first post.. but IMO, Bass is our best back and we go 3-5 in conference.

    I agree with your points.

If your prediction happens, I will poop myself. Literally, I'll just plain pinch one off right there in my shorts. And probably prematurely - after that predicted KU win.

Re: Prognostication for the rest of 08

If you have us beating Kansas and Nebraska, why not have us beat OSU and CU?

Anyhow, interesting prognosis. I'm worried about Baylor's QB. I think that's going to be a harder game than what most are thinking. I think we'll play Kansas well, but they have 2 weeks to prepare for us.

With K-State, I will be a little surprised if they go ofer in the conference. They will play A&M and Colorado which are winnable games. K-State has enough fire-power that I wouldn't be surprised to see them play close to Kansas and Missouri. I'd expect them to win 2-3 games in the conference at least.

If we keep improving, I wouldn't be shocked to see us beat Mizzou. I am not picking us to win right now, but if we pull off an upset, that's the one. I listened to their game against Buffalo, and their defense wasn't all that great, and Mizzou knows how to shoot itself in the foot.

Anyhow, our game against Mizzou is right before they have a bye week, Thanksgiving, and the Kansas game. I wouldn't be surprised if they looked past us. It happens.

Re: Prognostication for the rest of 08

At last the voice of sanity! After the gloom and doom of the last week its enjoyable to read a thread that is not all "the sky is falling, the sky is falling". I watched the game twice as and saw a team that found an identity in the second half. I really believe that this team is ready to take the next step. Are we going to the top of the league? No, but we will be in every game the rest of the season IMHO. Good post snowman.

Like I said, I am very impressed by Zac Robinson. I think we have a shot there, but my gut tells me OSU and CU on the road will be very tough. I think both of those teams are better than NU.

They would look past us to a bye week? I could see if they had us before OU or Texas, but I really don't forsee a team that good overlooking us going into a bye week.

Re: Prognostication for the rest of 08

Your drinking way to much Kool-aid. The only time this team has impressed me was the 2nd half of the UNLV game. There are issues that will be exposed in Big 12 play. This ISU team hasnt played a good team yet. If they struggle at Iowa and UNLV what makes you think they can win against quality Big 12 teams. Programs are not built over night. This team will be lucky to win 2 more games unless there are huge improvments between now and the Kansas game. I'm sorry to be a downer but the Iowa game and the first half of UNLV have me not so certin about the rest of the season. We have made excuses in the past the last 2 years and why this team didnt start strong and in the end there were reasons for the slow start. I'm tierd of the excuses I want a team that will give it its all and win the games they are suppose to. I'm as big of a fan and optimist about ISU sports but at some point they have to show me what they can do not what we think they can do.

The gap in our economy is between what we have and what we think we ought to have--and that is a moral problem, not an economic one. - Paul Heyne
