    Red Zone play calling

Anyone else hoping to see SJ used more near the goal line?

Throw it up.... let him catch.

Use his size and mad hops.

I'd like to see us get the QBs out of the pocket inside the 20, with a run/pass option...

Worth a try. Better than up the middle, up the middle, up the middle, Mahoney.

Would like to see a bit more of the option game, to be honest.

Me, too. Seems like we have some speed to try that.

I don't like Bates at QB, but he seems like he'd be a bit more effective of an option down there.....Bates and A-Rob.....gotta think one could get it in.

    Re: Red Zone play calling

I would like to see more zone read plays out of our offense. I think we could be very effective running this play especially with Bates.

Not saying use Bates for this play only, cause IMO i would like to see him throw the ball more and have AA run more. Which they should have done more in the first 2 games to let them practices their weaknesses.

NHL teams need to be added to the favorite teams section.

    Re: Red Zone play calling

Let's take it one step at a time. I'll just be happy if we can call a play -- any play -- in the red zone without taking multiple delay of game penalties and timeouts. Once we can accomplish that, then we can move on to calling effective plays.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

    Re: Red Zone play calling

When we have our opponents spread out, there is no reason we couldn't/shouldn't run the option, or qb draw near the goal line w/either qb. I really liked it when we called that draw for Arnaud against Kent. Did it seem to anyone else that our red zone play selection was actually pretty solid the first two games?

We were scoring, so it sure seemed OK. I thought the Iowa game made us look more confused than we did the other two. We got away from things that were working, and couldn't decide what to try.

Bingo. And we didn't do that in the first two games...

    Re: Red Zone play calling

I actually hope someday, we CAN just pound it in the endzone, inside the redzone. For now, we have to find other ways because our OL push isn't that impressive.
