If Bates isn't QB, where do you put him?

I have to admit, I've been won over to have both AA and Bates in the line-up. In the 70s, Iowa State had Dean Carlson at QB and George Amundson at TB. Amundson threw a lot of option passes, and his senior year moved to QB. He was runner up in the Heisman. Love to see Bates running and throwing like Amundson.
Some say receiver? What say you?

I would love to see him at Free Safety...

I think he'd be the biggest help on defense.

I'd say play him only at QB this year, and then put him in a sort of hybrid role of RB, Slot, and WR. He would mostly run and catch, but would throw once-in-a-while and take a few direct snaps each game.

Sadly....if PB isn't playing QB. My fear is him transferring to another school to play QB. 10 years ago, I would of never thought that, but it seem more and more common these days.
Tough situation for him with AA in front. I don't see him as anything other than a QB. Plus he as a redshirt left.

Go figure, say he leaves and AA get's hurt...

Re: If Bates isn't QB, where do you put him?

Why don't we have 2 QB's in the backfield and a running back. You could snap to either QB or the running back for direct snaps on the run. I don't understand why coaches have to stick with the ordinary. This would make every defense have to specially get ready for us. If one QB goes down the other guy takes over and is already warmed up.

Re: If Bates isn't QB, where do you put him?

First off you have to get him to agree to a position change. If he is willing to do this to get more playing time WR is the obvious spot and I'd even like to see them conjour up some trick plays where they have him drop back on a screen play and throw 1 down the field or run a reverse or something out of the WR spot.

Amen! But I don't think GC would let it happen. Former DC's as head coaches tend to be rather conservative on offense.

I don't see our offense lighting up to scoreboard in the B12 doing what we have done for the first 3 games. I think we would have a much better chance by getting both PB and AA on the field and handling the ball. It would give other teams a lot more to think about and prepare for.

If he transfered it would be a million dollar mistake. He is NOT going to be a QB at the next level and NFL teams don't draft small school QBs high to convert them. Convert now and he can be a top flight FS learning from Chizik and crew. With QB smarts, his size and speed, he could be a first round FS, I have no doubt...

I’d like to see him returning punts/kick-offs and playing slot wide receiver in the back-field with a couple of trick plays thrown in where he can throw it.

I agree. I am not as sure as you are that he'd be that highly of a touted safety - but what I've seen so far - I don't think he's an NFL QB.

Don't tell everyone! GC is waiting to bust this out in the first B12 game.
