Mark May on National Television -- ISU and Coker

On ABC National Television during the half of the Nebraska vs. Colorado game, the Larry Coker firing was being discussed. Mark May said something to this effect -- "Iowa State or Michigan State, Larry Coker is available. What do you do now???"

POLLARD -- YOU SHOULD BE ON A PLANE OUT OF DES MOINES TO MIAMI WITH $1.75 MILLION. Forget Kelly, Forget Harbaugh, Forget Everyone. If you have a chance at hiring Larry Coker with a National Title under his belt, you drop your power trip at the door, ask him how much he wants, go to the donors, and sign the contract.

    Case Closed.

Iowa State becomes a contenter overnight.

Coker knows Ames. You can't blame what happened at Miami all on him. Iowa State would be stupid to not even contact him and see his interest level.

A coach with a National Title in Ames? He's not from Iowa City.

Thats what ISU needs is some good thugs that will push people around. And will play with the TNFP rule. (Take No F***ing Prisoners Rule). Get Coker atleast he nows what a National Title game is like, unlike Kelly.

Re: Mark Mary on National Television -- ISU and Coker

Of course we don't want negative attention and thugs playing.. but if you look at schools.. the teams that get the most attention usually do the best...

T.O. is an idiot at times, and look at the Cowboys right now.

Miami has LOTS of issues, and they always have.. and they've been VERY successful.

    Iowa had Pierce and they...

    crap, nevermind

lol.. but anyway.. I would totally take Coker at ISU, I think it would work out really well, especially with recruiting. If you have great athletes, then the team will be great. No doubt about it.

Re: Mark Mary on National Television -- ISU and Coker

He won a title off of Davis's leftovers, and has gone down hill sinc etakin over for Davis. he might be a good coach, but I for one would not be happy to see him here in Ames. He may be able to recruit talented players, but alot of those players have that thug like attitude that BenJay was talking about. I want a classy coach like we had in McCarney, who is able to bring in some talented classy players. If ISU was ever involved in an on-field fight similar to the one Miami was in this year, I would be highly disappointed!

You are all making it sound like our number 1 goal in this coaching search is too find a guy who will bring us huge national attention and media exposure. Why I think that is not a bad thing to have, it should not be our main concern. Bring a guy in who fits the program well, has a good resume, and is going to make us a respectable/competitive program for years to come. If we make that our #1 goal, then the national exposure will be right behind it!

Re: Mark Mary on National Television -- ISU and Coker

Pollard had better fast forward himself and his million dollar contract to Miami. Coker has the second best record of coaching in the NCAA. Can ISU handle the excitement!!! YES! YES! YES! If you fans are serious about winning what other choice is there?

Re: Mark Mary on National Television -- ISU and Coker

We had that with Mac and it was a great ride! I respect Mac and would rather he had stayed. However, he couldn't. Hopefully, Pollard has a plan. Change is something that the midwest psyche doesn't tolerate well. It isn't about the media attention that I believe Coker would be a good choice. I don't relish the attention. It is about a coach that has a proven record. "Wherever Coker has gone in his coaching career, success followed." From the bio of Larry Coker on the U of Miami website. Have you listened to him? His press conferences? He's as classy a guy as Mac.

Re: Mark May on National Television -- ISU and Coker

We won't get Coker, but he's the kind of guy that would give fans "hope" right away and then SHOULD be able to give the program around 8 wins a year 6 in a down year and then a shot at a Big XII title.

I think that's what fans think of as the "next" step.

Now, obviously, the question is, "Who's that guy?". In fact, that's the "million dollar question".

Stupid million dollar questions, think they're so big.
