    That 4th Quarter Punt Return

Hey I only saw the return on tv twice, once live and the replay. Did Brandter (spelling?) punt the ball to the wrong side of the field? Seemed like whatshisface from Iowa made 2 moves and it was him and Brandter all alone.

I dont know if anyone else saw this or if I had too many koolaids to remember it that well. I punted for a year in college (not good at it) we had some directional punting plays and if I put it to the wrong side of the field we were in a world of hurt...especially if I had to make the tackle

I thought the exact same thing. I was at the game and it looked like most of the coverage was heading towards the right side of the field and the kick was fielded on the left.

It would not surprise me. He was having a pretty bad day punting. He had several oppertunites to pin the Hawks deep on short punts and blasted every one out of of deep into the endzone. Not like him at all.

Could be, all I know something was messed up because it may have been the slowest punt return for a TD in years.

Maybe he had all his CF credits on Iowa covering the spread...

Singleton should be completely sick over his horrid job of tackling on that play.

A person could say that's karma for the first half personal foul he committed when running down a punt.

He wasn't the only guy that missed on that play, but it certainly was the worst (both in form and effort).

Go back and watch a replay of it, and watch Sandvig leave his lane and open up the hole for Brodell. Sandvig guessed that Brodell would take it back across field and left his lane to cut him off, and that is what opened the hole.

Re: That 4th Quarter Punt Return

I was on the opposite side of the field and on th goal line he was running to and I could see the seem as soon as he shook the first tackle. I was thinking the same thing about the directional punt.

That is what I wondered last night after watching the game again. And I slowed it down, and the live play angle didnt show much, except that the ISU player had left his feet, it looked like a leap.

They then had another angle on the play from the EZ that Andy ran to, that showed that it was not a block in the back. I think the ISU player was jumping over someone else. If it were a clip, I would sit here and say that it was. But it wasn't. I was looking for clips on the replay, and I didn't find one there.

As for the wrong side of the field, they funneled Brodell to the sideline. Ther wasn't much room there. Just one of those plays.

Wasn't also Singleton who also got the PF for blowing up the iowa punt returner earlier in the game?

Yeah, and it was Brodell who he hit. We must have kicked it to him hoping he'd hear foot steps of the prior hit. Dumb move kicking it to an Iowa kid with a chip on his shoulder.

We really had all the momentum up to that point.

Watching it live, at home, it looked like a clip at first glance. I could not see for sure. It looks like the ISU player is leaping, but if he is, he is leaping to get behind the runner and completely miss him, which does not make sense. If you search the live game thread, I even posted that I thought I saw a clip on #4. Curious you seemed to see the same thing.

Not saying it made all that much difference in the game though. If you can't score TDs than you don't exactly deserve to win. That being said, I wouldn't be puffing my chest out as a Hawk fan either. Ten years in and $3 million a year, with all your built in advantages as well as money, and those two teams looked pretty even to me. Looking ahead, I would much rather be a Cyclone.
