Don't hold your breath on that one. The games shown locally on WOI are not shot in HD and I can't see that changing for a while yet. Even if you have channel 5 in HD, you won't get ISU bball in HD.

Re: DirecTV HD locals in Des Moines in November?

    Speaking of Channel 5 HDTV....

OTA Channel 5 HDTV sucks big time - their transponder must be run off a 9 volt battery or something with as crappy as the picture comes in in the DSM area. And yes, I've properly aligned a high end antenna. Everything else works great OTA, but Channel 5 is just crap.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

You're right. I didn't think of that. It just sucks that the Channel 5 games look better on my old 27 inch bubble screen than my 42 inch LCD.

That is correct, although I would think the picture would clear up at least a little bit. It's true that the locals look absolutely awful on an HDTV right now.

Do you think that Dish and DirecTV will both go to local HD channels come February? I have the exact same frustrations with dish.

No problems with WOI HDTV here in Clive. I have a 110" element antenna on my roof however.

If you have an indoor or attic antenna...you will struggle with WOI.

Ch5 has no HD equipment, thus those games will not be in HD.

The true digital signal for ISU games is still pretty bad. I would not expect a whole lot. I watch all of them in digital, and the pixilization is pretty bad.

Ohh, and they have had this up there 3 times in the past, so I am not holding my breathe. However this time they went as far as to start swapping people out for MPEG4 equipment so maybe, just maybe it will happen.

Yes, the guy from Ames told me Dish will have locals in HD by the end of this October.

True. The difference overall will probably be slightly better, but not by much. Certainly nothing close to HD quality.
