    Still excited about the future!

We have a very winnable game next Saturday and then two weeks to shock the nation and beat a ranked team (assuming they'd still be ranked).

Kansas looked very good last night on the road. Their qb was terrific. We must beat UNLV to go to a bowl.

With our youth and inexperience, it's interesting to see in what ways we improve game-to-game (and sometimes in what ways we take a half-step backward).

Who would have thought the ISU defense would limit eiu to 244 total yards, given its performance the first two games?

Just seemed to me heading into the season, with all of the youth involved in PT and the great inexperience in some areas, this team will be inconsistent for awhile.

After the regular season's final game, let's hope we can look back to this moment and say to ourselves, yeah, boy, the coaching staff earned its pay, this team really became solid and salty.

That way, we (most of us, anyway) can be excited heading into 2009 when we return 16-18 starters. . . .

I am very very excited about this team! We have a lot to look forward to this year and the years to come after this year. Good things are going to happen, I can feel it!

Off topic but the Hawks are claiming this win gets them into the Top 25..

Well if it did I think it would be a compliment to us, but I don't think it will. They might get a few more votes in the poll, but I doubt they break into the Top 25.

I am really excited too. Despite the fact that I thought we would beat Iowa, they played overall better than I thought. Just some correctable mistakes and lack of capitalizing by a young and growing team. I feel better about the UNLV game than I did yesterday.

Good comment. Looked to me more like we lost this game than the hawks won. We hav a chance t win 6 or 7. Apparently We do lack the ability to turn the playcalling over to the qb when time is almost gone and we need to score. That is where Bates might can come in handy. He looks like he can wing the game better when under the crunch.

We managed to let the game roll by fast. When the ball goes out of bounds with a pass, the clock kept running. With our tall receivers, I thought we might try a few more deep throws. That is one of AA's best assets and we did not utilize it except for one toss.

Actually he looked tremendous considering the mad defensive rush by USF and Selvie...look at the stats. The last play for the interception that was run back a long ways won the game for USF instead of a KU win. Todd was 34 for 51 and 3 passing TDs and one rushing TD and the last toss was an INT.

We missed some opportunities. Outside of one drive by the Hawks, our D did fairly well. Still too many rushing yards.
I like this thread, as it's only one loss. It's not the season. No reason to panic or be too down.

They beat us today, but I CAN'T WAIT until next year in Ames. I think out team will grow leaps and bounds over the course of this season, and by next year we will be rolling.

Combination of both I think. Our offense did very well, up until the red zone. The Hawks have played a bend-but-dont-break defense for years, they really stiffen up inside the 20. We just don't currently have the running game to punch it in.

If we can develop a decent running game to finish off those drives, I think we could have a good team by the end of the year. As young as we are, that bodes very well for the future.

Re: Still excited about the future!

I am very proud of our team. I think better days are ahead. Looked pretty good in most phases of the game. Run game and redzone needs work, but we are young. If Iowa is so great, they sure didn't look any better than ISU today, what does that say about our team?

As for KU: very beatable. Not like last year's team at all. Their offense is pretty good, but their defense gives up lots of points and yards it looks like. Their defensive backfield really misses Talib.

Re: Still excited about the future!

We've got to figure out how to run the ball, hard to believe we used to have 1,000 yard rushers with 11 games with regularity, and now we are lucky to have a running back break 500 yards a year with 12 games!

How about Houston Jones? He's been a really pleasant surprise
