    Arnaud or Bates?

Was the "quarterback controversy" settled today? After the third game I really don't think one stood out more than the other, but I would probably give the edge to Arnaud.

I do think it's time to decide one way or the other.

    One QB?

Any chance Chizik can pick one quarterback and stick with it? Obviously Arnaud and Bates are equally talented, but how can our offense get any kind of consistency when they are lead by two quarterbacks.

I also agree UNIClone I think it is time to pick one and stick with it.

    Re: Arnaud or Bates?

Arnaud is a better passer, I think he should be the full time guy.

    Re: Arnaud or Bates?

You think one gets a leg up then the other does something great. You think the other messes up then the other messes up. It will be hard for Chizik and staff to manage.

    Re: Arnaud or Bates?

I agree that Arnaud should get the bulk of the playing time next week (if not all of it, barring a complete meltdown), but what do you do with Bates? Should he be used as a slot receiver, or just hold a clipboard?

    Re: Arnaud or Bates?

Well, Chizik did go with Arnaud down the stretch. Neither were exactly world beaters this week either - I wouldn't be surprised if it's still undecided.

    Re: Arnaud or Bates?

Are we going to get this after every game now? Arnaud was clearly the better quarterback. That doesn't mean that Bates won't play an important role next week.

    Re: Arnaud or Bates?

Arnaud has already been getting the bulk of the playing time. Arnaud got all the snaps down the stretch, but we were in obvious passing situations, so it was a no brainer.

Bates' athleticism was neutralized a bit by the playing conditions and a very good defense. Bates was honestly about 2 inches from giving us a 1st and goal at the 2, and then maybe we wouldn't have seen a missed 21 yard field goal.

    Re: Arnaud or Bates?

This is no slight to Arnaud but I go with Bates. He can make the
throws and it just seems like he has that something special. When
he has the ball in his hands you can feel the excitement.
Either way the 2 QB offense is not going away.

    Re: Arnaud or Bates?

The controversary is apparent still. AA is very mechanical in his decisions (he gives the defense chance to recover if they are a good defense.) Bates is more the big playmaker. I think AA should have made better decisions in the fourth quarter. Just my opinion. Obviously if you never score a touchdown you can not be happy with the team.

    .
But for some reason, I feel more confident when AA is in the game.

I agree with you, the two headed QB is not going anywhere anytime soon.

    Re: Arnaud or Bates?

The stats are rather clear who the quarterback is...

    Arnaud

    41/60 for 488 2TDs, 2 INTs 68.3% completion, 8.1 yards per attempt
    Rushing - 15 for 38

    Bates

    11/20 for 137 2TDs, 1INTs 55% completion, 6.9 yards per attempt
    Rushing - 20 for 140

but yet, other than one play, Iowa contained him. It seemed like our offense was much more efficient with Arnaud at the helm.

I was a Bates supporter until today. AA starts, Bates gets 2 or 3 series - more if he does something great.
