Re: Families go against Traditional Allegiences in the Big Game

When Iowa State played in Kinnick two years ago, her husband’s mother had just passed away and their two sons were coming home to Muscatine to attend services for their grandmother rather than take the team bus back to Ames.

After the game, they were walking through the streets of Iowa City, clearly recognizable as Iowa State players because of the suits they were wearing. Hawkeye fans booed them.

“Of course, they didn’t know that my mother-in-law had just passed away, but it was terrible …’’ Theresa Frere said. “I don’t hold that against Iowa, but that’s my last memory of Kinnick Stadium.’’
    That kind of sucks.

My father played basketball at Iowa State but named me after his mentor and highschool coach who became head coach at Iowa. I was a swimmer at Furman and a rower at Oxford. All of my cousins are Iowa fans. However, I could care less about Iowa, Furman and Oxford. Its ISU all the way! I hope we drop 60 on them... GO CYCLONES!

Seriously? I'll bet there's not many Americans that can say that. Very cool.

How about the couple featured in the DSM Register today for a similar story?

The guy was the 'Clone fan, but he's decked out head-to-toe in old gear (trademark, colors), ?!?!?!?

    Very poor form dude!!!!!!!!!!!

By your handle did you grow up in Georgia? I have spent quite a bit of time in Atlanta and north Georgia. I really like both places, one of the only places I would leave Iowa for. Great people also. The Oxford rowing thing is cool too, good show. It would be great if you could post some pics dude, Oxford is quite impressive.
