    Running game

After watching the replay, it is very clear to me that we need ARob back very badly. Chiz said it himself, we struggled in the running game at the tailback position. The Oline made holes.

We have a running back that can run (Bass) and a running back that can block (Scales) but we do not have a running back that can run and block. I am frustrated seeing Bass wiff on blocks and Scales continually putting his head down and driving into the middle of the line. I canít wait for Bo Williams next year.

If A Rob isn't at 100%, Bates could be our best RB. Lets line him up behind Arnaud and see what happens!

    Re: Running game

Bass missed allot of running lanes. He is a more gifted runner than Scales, but he doesn't have the speed or elusiveness ARob brings. Hopefully some of that is due to being rusty and he can step it up, because we are going to need another viable option running the ball other than Robinson.

I just watched the replay and had the exact same thought. There appeared to be holes.

    Re: Running game

Does it seem that Scales lines up deeper than other running backs? It looked like he was ten yards deep on one play.

I have a good feeling our running game will be back in shape this week, With Arob or JJ.

Got anything you would like to share with us? Hopefully ARob is going to be 95%.

i think even when arob is healthy bates is our best runner. he is so patient and waits for his holes. he looks like a rb. maybe he can teach the rb's some things.

I don't think you can teach whatever it is Bates has got...

Yeah, but if he dances near the sideline and gets hit by 4 or 5 defenders like he did vs Kent St (in front of their bench), he could likely get hurt.

I think he came out of the game for a while after that play last Saturday.

Don't get me wrong, he can run like Hell and I sure hope he does Saturday. But when you are a QB, it doesn't hurt to go out of bounds when there is a lot of traffic around. You've got your throwing shoulder to think about.

    Re: Running game

Maybe our RBs need to start taking this line seriously:

"...And when we hit that line we'll HIT IT HARD every yard for I...S...U!!!"

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

When I was at ISU in the early 70's we had a situation with Dean Carlson and George Amundson like we have this year with two good QB's. They moved George to TB and after Carlson graduated I think George had one year at QB. George was a great athelete like Bates.

    Re: Running game

Bates is one of the fastest guys on the team, I just watched the replay, and his 56 yard run... He was much faster than rico murray, murray just had a very nice angle and was able to get an arm over phils shoulder.
