    Direct TV overwhelmed in Omaha.......

Ordered Direct TV this morning, (don't know why I waited so long), and was told that I could have it installed in 3 days. Then the rep filed the order and was told by local Omaha installation crews that they were overwhelmed with orders in Omaha, and the next installation date is October 23, 2008. I'm on a waiting list for a possible cancellation.

Looks to me like Cox Cable is losing some market share because folks are fed up with poor sports coverage - I know I am! I'm just ****** that I can't get this weekend's ISU/Iowa game and others until the end of October.

I called to upgrade to Directv HD here in the Twin Cities, and the closest installation appointment I could get was over three weeks away. I, too, am on a cancellation list.

That sucks - find the alumni game watch bar... otherwise, like my dad would say:

Why'd you procrastinate when you knew something well in advance? :)

    Sorry, couldn't help myself...

Re: Direct TV overwhelmed in Omaha.......

Seems like fall is a busy time for DirecTV installers - I went through a similar wait last fall (four weeks, IRRC.) A friend order last spring, and had installation complete in less than two weeks.

I will say that DirecTV's service is really good, once you've got it. We were having issues with some HD channels, but they weren't important ones, so I hadn't call for service yet. They actually called us, after the receiver reported issues, and subsequently scheduled an appointment to come out and re-adjust the dish.

At least I'm going to get to see the game, just not in HD.

This happened to me as well. Finally, after my long wait, the guy arrived and inspected my set-up. Since I live in a third-story apartment without an entirely clear line-of-sight to the southern sky, I was told that I couldn't get the HD dish because it wouldn't fit on my balcony. I am stuck with my lame standard definition dish. Nature finds cruel ways to mock me.

I purchased an HD-compatible over-the-air antenna so I at least get the locals in HD now. But seriously. Lame.

To be fair though I work for a company who works directly for DTV so obviously could call the installer directly and hook up. Sorry I can't help ya!

They are running a huge promotion for Sunday Ticket at the moment. It basically boils down to you get free sunday ticket if you switch right now (they actually give you the premium package free for 4 months, if you pay for sunday ticket).

That's how I got hooked on it 6 years ago. They run that special every fall.
