Rain in the forecast for Saturday

    Who does this favor?

I'm kinda thinking not us, based on our poor showing running the ball thus far.

Plenty of time for it to change though. Perhaps we can get a Messiah to alter the forecast? ;)

    Iowa no doubt

It negates what little speed difference we have over them!!

Honestly though they have a better run defense/offense than we have shown so far

Re: Rain in the forecast for Saturday

At first glance I would say it favors Iowa. BUT, when I think to playing and watching wet games, it's the shifty guys that are harder to contain then the power guys in the mud. A power guy will go down on contact with the poor footing, but a shifty guy knows his move before making it and generally has better footing then the defender reacting. We definately have more shifty guys (Bass, Bates, WR's)...

Also real easy for a shifty guy that likes to make a ton of cuts to lose his footing and slip.

Everyone says that rain slows down the fast guys. Well, doesn't it slow down the slow guys as well?

I can't decide who this would favor either. Could make an argument for both.

Normally I would say on a muddy field the advantage goes to the underdog; but in this case it plays to EIU’s advantage as we have more speed at the skill positions and they have a better power running game.

Re: Rain in the forecast for Saturday

Well... It might help the Iowa players a bit more. I have a feeling that a rainy day may keep the "boo-birds" at home, boosting Iowa's confidence.

Otherwise, it slows everyone down. A down pour would be a night mare for us. But considering Iowa wasn't good throwing the ball to begin with, me might be able to tee off on them more to prevent the rush.

Lets hope for light rain or nothing at all.

Too early to worry about Sat weather.

Greene has been known to put the ball on the ground. With our ability to get turnovers this year could this help us?

As far as depth goes though, the combination of White, Woodbury, Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff is much better than Niang, Ejim, Edozie, Gibson. Not because of the top 2, but because of the next 2 or 3. -DeanVogs

Re: Rain in the forecast for Saturday

YES!!! We can now be the "tough as rain clones"

If I had to predict who it would affect more, I would have to say eiu. Based on the fact that to me we could then really stack the line and force a game-time inexperienced qb have to beat us with his arm.

With that said, I really dont think its gonna be much of a factor at all outside of a couple special teams plays...

Huh? So if you are running straight and I am juking back and forth, you are more likely to slip? I don't get that logic

Plus Iowa has the shiftiest RB out of all of us in their freshman RB. If I were them I would give that kid 20 carries against us (assuming it doesn't rain)

No but if I know that I am going to cut, and you don't I, I have a huge advantage. Actions are much easier than reactions in slippery conditions. I remember now where I heard this, it was a Jaguars game last year and they were playing JD over Taylor because he was tougher to bring down in the mud...

Re: Rain in the forecast for Saturday

One thing I was wondering about last Saturday since it looked like it might rain for the Kent State game is which of our QB's would be better in the rain. Not just wet turf but rain during a game causing a wet ball. I think Austen is a little taller so he might have longer hands but I'm sure that is not the only factor. Didn't Seneca have some trouble when the football was wet?
