    BYU @ Washington

Anybody else see the end of this one? BYU is up 28-21. UW is in the redzone with time running out. Their QB scrambles for a TD with :02 left, and the refs make a borderline call for excessive celebration. Of course the 35-yard PAT attempt is blocked. BYU escapes 28-27. The announcers were furious with the refs for that call.

I think it was a shame the zebras affected the end of the game. I dont think that was excessive celebration.

    BTW....those announcers were horrible

I dunno - way more than just a ball flip over his shoulder. That being said, UW SUCKS out loud and that QB has no supporting talent around him. He's electric though. Willingham is way done there.

Agree about the announcers. Sometimes it's painful switching between games on ESPN and FSN. FSN games are like a student production in comparison.

Ain't nothing wrong with Barry Tompkins (Rocky III fight announcer) and Petros Papadakis (former USC scrub).

The Huskies got the shaft there. No way that deserved a flag.

San Diego State appears to have been robbed against Notre Dame as well. I thought the ball crossed the goal line before it was fumbled. Official and replay guys disagreed.

I guess I must be wrong, but I thought those penalties are assessed on the kick off? Or does the defense have the option?

I believe the defense gets the option, almost all choose field position over forcing a longer PAT attempt. But in this case, the longer PAT attempt was better.

The officials simply enforced the rule on Saturday, nothing more. The rule however, can certainly be debated.

I've listened to arguments that "no way the officials can make that call that late in the game".

Why? Are the rules different in the 4th quarter than they are in the 1st?

It just sucks the NCAA is trying to strip athletes of one of the most important things about football...

    Emotion.

    Re: BYU @ Washington

    I agree with the call.

I think the rule is worded poorly.

The rule clearly states that "throwing the ball high in the air" is grounds for the penalty, and he clearly did that.

It's really not a judgment call at that point. The intent of him throwing the ball in the air doesn't matter, the fact that he did it does.

    Re: BYU @ Washington

As the rule is stated it was definitely the right call. The ball was thrown in the air, the whistle was blown, period. I do think the rule needs to be better worded.

I'm sick of people saying that ref's shouldn't call penalties late in the game. Why should the end of a game be free time to cheat? Call it as you see it, that's your job, someone obviously trusts you to make the right call. Do your job as you see, that's the game.

I have to agree with this post -

It's not the call by the officials that blows - it's the rule itself that blows.
