    Anybody not watch TV?

I wouldn't own a television were it not for my spouse.

I will admit to watching tv, however my viewing is very limited. I can't remember watching a movie or even a sitcom in months. What television I do watch is primarily sports related and even that viewership is limited.

Interestingly most of those that do without fit into one of two groups; the "crunchy granola set" or the "religious right, ultraconservative" camp.

According to a recent study aversion to tv is common ground for the very liberal and the very conservative.

Frankly I don't see many downsides to giving up television.

    Re: Anybody not watch TV?

I watch quite a bit of TV, but my best friend from high school and his wife do not. They have a TV but keep it in a closet. They're both religious, but I wouldn't call them "religious right, ultraconservative." I'd call them more the "crunchy granola" types--in an affectionate way. We definitely went in different directions after high school.

Other than sports, 24, and The Office I don't watch a ton of TV. I would need my TV to play my video games, though.. ;)

It's entertainment. I don't think it's going to make me a better person but there are shows that are funny. A lot of times it's just background noise.

I only had a 7-inch TV from 1975 that my grandfather gave me when I lived by myself (before I got married), and I rarely turned it on.

Although I primarily watch sports, news, and movies - I would have a very difficult time getting by without a TV. I can't sleep without one on - can't shut my brain off and need something to distract me.

Then of course there's Izzie from Grey's Anatomy. Watching her is reason enough to have a TV. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm......

this is crazy talk. What do you people do to pass the time. I get home from work, eat, then watch TV for 3 hours, maybe go for a run/walk, then another hour or so of TV. 75% sports, 25% sitcoms/news. My weekends involve lots of football watching in the fall, approximately 10 hours depending on ISU home games and who is playing on Sunday/Monday. In fact I am watching SportsCenter right now before I watch NFL and college football tonight, all night.

    Re: Anybody not watch TV?

I have a TV in the closet, ironically (a small one). I watch shows streaming online sometimes or DVDs. I am writing a dissertation, and it is just too big a distraction. It isn't that I don't like TV, it is that I like it too much. I want to do something more constructive with my time---that doesn't always mean I'm successful.

Honestly, I went without TV for about 3 years and what got me back to it for a while was when our basketball team made the NCAAs in 2005.

I read and have work to do for the next morning when I get home. I don't really have time to watch TV. Plus I like to do something worthwhile with my time.

I have a television, but I don't pay for cable. I use it to watch the occasional movie. During the 'season' I keep up with Scrubs and How I Met Your Mother online. That's it.

Reading is something worthwhile? I guess you have me there as I hate to read and I cant take my work home. So there goes 2 hours I would be busy. Speaking of worthwhile, I do drink when I watch TV sometimes so I guess that counts.

    Re: Anybody not watch TV?

I don't watch much actual live TV besides sports, I prefer to get my tv shows in download form. Since my only tivo is upstairs and I watch downstairs it's easier to put them on my media center for later.

I think too much of any form of media is bad. People need to get out and experience life, not just read, post, and view it.
