    Spirit walk on Saturday 4pm

A reminder of the 'spirit walk' thru the parking lot begins at 4pm. Hope everyone can be a part of it!

let's hope the buses actually arrive on time this Saturday. (15 minutes early last week)

So that's why I missed it.

I'll be honest, I missed it altogether. We 'gate in G7, so it's unlikely that we'll walk over there.

    (ok - I was drunk)

But I didn't even notice the buses going down Elwood.

It'd be cool if they could do the air-raid siren as the team gets close. Kind of an alert and reminder for people to get over there.

I know, I know - most of the residents along Beach apparently will run to their basements thinking severe weather is imminent or the Russians are attacking.

Our firetruck sounds like an air raid siren. But since Pollard was talking to us as the busses came we didn't get to lead the busses in last week. He told us 5:05, it was 4:40 and there they came. Pollard was just as shocked as we were. The only thing that made us feel better after missing only the second time in 9 years was that the band was "late" as well.

It sucked for us, but good results for the game...

I think the firetruck usually leads them in but since the buses were early last week they missed it.

Yea well I was in G7 and we did walk over at 4:40 - got there and it was pretty much over. I was ticked. Was going to send something to Pollard but sounds like he wasn't expecting them early either.

Re: Spirit walk on Saturday 4pm

First, I love the whole firetruck thing and have to admit, it wouldn't be the same without it, but wouldn't it be cool if the busses would dropp off right at S. 4th and University and our fan walk was up the street right to the Jake with the band leading the way??? It would make things a bit more manageable for all fans to get there from any lot. I personally don't think they "walk" far enough through the fans and if we could line that entire street with fans pumping up the team and the players could walk right past the Jack Trice Statue it would be an improvement on the beginning of a great tradition.

We only heard and saw them on Beach, not University (fka Elwood.) They went north to Center and then south to 4th. At first, we were sure it wasn't them because of the early time and the absence of the firetruck, and then nearly didn't have time to get over before all of the players had left the buses. We had a first-time tailgater who won't be at any other games this year, and we weren't able to show him the real thing.

I agree that a longer walk would be nice, but I would rather see them walk up by all the tents all the way up...

Re: Spirit walk on Saturday 4pm

good point. I'm fine either way, I would just like to see enough people out there that there's a need to extend it... It would look awfully silly walking all the way down the tents without fans and I don't like that the busses pull ALL the way down and literrally drop them off at the S. 4th St.

Maybe we can stop the firetruck early and make them walk...

I believe I heard Gene mention on his show that they were too early and that they would be rolling in at 3:50 to 4 or so....2 hours before kickoff and yes they were 20 minutes early coming in from the west of the lots.i.e...no firetruck either which was a bummer. Regardless of specific time, be ready to roll 20 minutes til..show up early with an extra beer or water and make new friends while you wait!!!!

Regarding making the walk longer, I don't recall having enough fans last year in the first place as participation dropped as the season went on. I think they will make it longer as participation increases.

On a positive note, my 10 year old daughter got a high 5 from Gene and all I heard for the rest of the night was, "I am never washing my hand"....i.e. the kids love doing it and I must a admit I enjoy it as well. To bad we can't get the kids from the south side up to the line...that would really make their entrance crazy!!!

Does the team pay 'tribute' to the Jack Trice statue?

we need something like that...like "Howard's Rock" at Clemson.

There is/was a plaque from the old Williams field over by the ramp where they used to come out at.

Don't know if it's still there, or they moved it since they started coming out of the middle of the Jake. Regardless, the plaque didn't have anything to do with Trice.
