    Re: CFN's Week One Rankings

Flame me if you want, but I didn't expect Iowa to beat Maine 46-3. However, SDSU finished the season last year at #2 in the polls... Maine finished at about #43. We won't know the impact until a couple weeks from now, but the ISU/Iowa game will be a lot closer than anyone in IC would want to believe.

I thought Iowa looked good. However, if a physical team stops their big back, Greene, and the opponent gets any kind of pressure on Christensen, it will be a much different story.

Iowa looked the exact same as they did last year. Average running game. Bad receivers. Average QB. Solid run D. Bad pass D. Suspect kicking game.

When you play a team whose D line averages the size of a Fullback.... you are going to beat them bad.

I don't think anyone with realistic expectations saw the ISU vs. Iowa game as a blowout.

Since 04 the home team has won each game and I think Iowa will match up with us better this year after seeing what a Chizik-led team looks like.

From the little I saw Saturday they did look pretty good and so did we on Thursday night. These games against I-AA teams never reveal too much either way so at this point it's hard to tell what way either team is going to go except that none of us have seen anything yet.

That said, you are right, the game will be much closer than any of us would like.

I'm super excited for the Iowa game.. but I'm not so sure we can stop the Kent St running back. Not so sure we can beat the Flashes.

Although SDSU was better than Maine last year...they finished #22 last year not #2

Greene had over 100 yards and a TD, Hampton had 60 and 2 TD's. I'll take that "average" running game every Saturday. And suspect kicking game?? The kickers were 4-4 and Murray put every kickoff in the endzone!!

    Re: CFN's Week One Rankings

It's not all that bad. Some things are a bit silly, but hey we're ahead of Pitt!

I thought Rice looked good but they are ranked low. I thought Maryland and Rutgers looked like crap and are ranked higher than I'd expect. Oh well.

All we gotta do is keep improving and the rankings will take care of themselves.

The guy you responded to looks as if he didn't really watch the game. FWIW, the "bad" pass defense held Maine to under 100 yards, and the "solid" rush defense was probably the biggest disappointment of the day.

    Re: CFN's Week One Rankings

Im really glad Hampton busted some long runs in the 4th quarter against Maine. Trust me... your running game is NOT GOOD.

Watched every play of that game. Maine dropped a ton of passes.

Good thing you play in the Big 10, you might sniff a few wins.

I saw the same thing. Either they were splitting kickoffs or i wasn't watching the same game that DJK15 was. Granted, I was installing a hardwood floor during the game and had it on in the background, but, I don't remember every kick going into the end zone.

Oh yeah... and how the heck does Iowa allow 100 yards to the Maine RB.
