    Misc. Norvell Notes....

I think you're generous with the C- for Davis. Especially when you compare his play-calling to Jay Norvell's. That guy has some serious stones, and called several gutsy plays that very nearly scored the upset for the Huskers. A+ for Norvell.

    From Texas BLOG

For good reason. Callahan campaigned for the Nebraska job on sophisticated offense. Option was dead. The NFL/West Coast spread was the only way to attract the top recruits. The Huskers bought in, and for nearly two years they waited for the update.
Only at the end of last season, in victories over Colorado and Michigan, did things start to take shape.
But another offseason of quarterback Zac Taylor working with offensive coordinator Jay Norvell meant more rough edges had been smoothed out.

(Norvell is also QB coach at NU)

I've also been very impressed with how the NU staff has scouted and moved in on Moevao. Bill Busch discovered him because of his relationships in CA. After seeing film, NU moved right in with offensive coordinator Jay Norvell going to watch him practice, and then quickly got a written offer in his hands. That sounds like a group of men who know what is at stake, and are willing to move with some urgency to handle it. I'm always impressed with this staff's process and how they execute their plans.

    Big Red Blog

It's safe to say that the Nebraska Elite Quarterback Academy is quickly becoming one of the top individual camps in the entire country. On Monday, Husker offensive coordinator Jay Norvell wrapped up year two of the NU Elite QB camp. ...

He doesn't even call the plays!!! He is a coordinator that they give about as much responsibility on game days as the water boy!!

    Re: Misc. Norvell Notes....

To me, these little blog thingies are not much. The first one is from a random Texas blog.

The second paragraph states that the offensive coordinator (norvell) used a summer to smooth out zac taylor's game. So? Isn't that what an offensive coordinator should do?

Third blog thing says he traveled to a place to watch a qb they were recruiting. So? Any other coordinator, or regular schmuch for that matter, could do that.

Rivals blog says that he wrapped up a camp. Once again....so what?

On a daily basis, I go to school and my job. Nobody talks about all the times I breathe, or take steps, or do homework....because it's expected of me.

What I want to know about is what he's EXCEPTIONAL at in his field of expertise. These blogs don't show me that.

    Re: Misc. Norvell Notes....

Again...I am not in the Norvell camp, but Head Coaches calling plays is not uncommon and not a knock against the coordinator. From my digging going back to his days at Indianapolis he was known as a West Coast offense guru. BTW to say he was fired at Indy is really not fair also as he was like some of the ISU assistants who may be very good coaches but were let go when the head coach was fired.

I agree with the knock on him for not calling the plays. But comparing him to a water boy is just foolish.

    Re: Misc. Norvell Notes....

Having a QB camp that is being labeled in its second year as one of the best in the nation does say something don't you think Michael?

I really just set out to find out what has been written about him and what he has done to help answer questions in my own mind. I still think we have better options and at least two of them have TX addresses. However, I must admit I did find only positive things in several hours of searching.

I would agree, but it doesn't say that Norvell is the reason this camp is going well, or even A reason. By comparison, I went to Steve Alford's Iowa Basketball camp a few years ago. He was there for a few hours one day, then left to recruit. I'm not saying that's necessarily what Norvell did, but we don't know from that blog.

Good point. A good comparison would be your Alford story and the stories we heard about how players loved the Mac camps b/c the head coach was there all time and they got to interact with him. Hopefully who ever the new coach is doesn't see himself "above" those things and keeps up that part of the DMac tradition

    Re: Misc. Norvell Notes....

Jay Norvell is quite well known to JP and his family. If he is the hire, maybe JP was going to hire Norvell from the very start. Harbaufgh would have been the surprise pick IMO. Something different.

Also a good point. I hope that's what we get as well.

That was a joke! I was hoping you guys would take it as that. I'm just saying there is nothing this guy has done at Nebraska to warrant us hiring him
