    Please not Harbaugh....

Just to play devil's advocate I haven't been sold on Harbaugh since his name surfaced. His best credential is that he's a HC at a Div I-AA school. That's it, nothing else.

Call me crazy but I'm not willing to gamble ISU's fball future on em. I could very much be wrong but don't want to find out.

I won't knock it if he's hired and I'll wholeheartly cheer him on...he's just not who I hope we go with.

Personally, I am hoping for Mike Ditka. Until we hire someone that is who I am holding out for.

Plus he only has 3 years at the school. I agree with you, if we do hire Harbuagh I will go with it and pray for the best, but I think we are taking a huge gamble with him, and if it happened to not work out, I think our football program would be in trouble for a long time. Personally, out of all the names i have seen, Harbaugh is my last choice.

I disagree. He has several strong attributes.
    1. He is a coaches son. He lives and breathes coaching. He was an assistant for his dad at Western Kentucky.
    2. He played for two legends - Bo Schembechler and Mike Ditka.
    3. He has NFL assistant coaching experience.
    4. He was able to lure Dave Adolf out of retirement to join him at USD as his defensive coordinator.
    5. Name recognition. While recruits may not remember him, their parents certainly do.
    6. His burning desire for excellence and killer instinct. Reread the posts about him going for 2 when his team was up 49-7. Seem like a change from what we've had these past 12 years?

I am sold on the guy. I would also love to have Gary Patterson. Sorry, I have zero excitement for the possibility of Jay Norvell as our head coach.

How much of his success is due to assistants that can coach circles around the level of coaching that exists at the non scholarship level of college football? They won't have that advantage at the Big XII level. I actually see this as more of a negative then a positive.

Well said Urb. I just think when you compare the coaching exp of the two Norvell wins in a landslide.

    1. Not worth squat in my book.
    2. Who he played for doesn't affect his coaching too much.
    3. Okay, I'll give a little for this. Where did he coach and what position?
    4. Who?
    5. That won't mean much on the recruiting trail. Parents and kids want winning programs.
    6. All good coaches better have that.

Actually he was an unpaid assistant coach serving as offensive consultant, basically just recruiting players for a D1-AA team.

    6. His burning desire for excellence and killer instinct. Reread the posts about him going for 2 when his team was up 49-7. Seem like a change from what we've had these past 12 years?
We want a guy that goes for 2 when up by 42 points? There's a difference between being an aggressive coach and being a d-bag that runs up the score just because he can. I would take a Bob Stoops clone, if he has the coaching ability of Stoops, and not just the poor sportsmanship.

i think he's wikipedia-ing this, and it's actually his brother who is a Special Teams Coordinator for the Eagles.

EDIT: Nevermind, he was a QB coach for the Raiders. Wait......is that something to be proud of?

Another point about JH's success at San Diego. He's obviously surrounded himself with a higher level of coaches than what other non scholarship programs can attract or afford. If you put DM and his staff at San Diego I would bet you're going to see similar domination, but we all know they fell short at the Big XII level.

I would be absolutly embarassed if my teams head coach went for 2 where they were up 49-7. I didnt even know that until know, and that make me not want Harbaugh even more. That is very unsportsman like and he would get ripped so hard in the media for dong something like that!

He did this to a team that had continuously kicked their butt for the past 10 years. You're telling me that if ISU had the chance of pounding the Huskers after the years when Osbourne was killing us 70- something to 10 you wouldn't have enjoyed it?

I would have begged for more.

There's a slight difference between continually scoring TDs, because you put in your scrubs and if they still run over the opposition, then that's their problem. But to go for 2, that means that you're intentionally trying to score more points even though you've already iced the game.

There's a major difference. And that's not something you rarely, if ever, see in D-1A football. If it was something that every coach with fire and determination would do, it would happen all the time.

There is a huge difference in running up points via touchdowns and pat's vs touchdowns and 2 points. Going for 2 is about as respectable as trying the onside kick when you are up by 42 points. Completly rediculous!
