    Mahoney...

I don't know if anyone else noticed this - but, i saw something that i think says a lot about this young man.

Last year when Shaggy would kick it through (occasionally) everyone would run back to all excited as if to say HOLY COW YOU MADE IT - YOU REALLY MADE IT!!!!!!! It seemed like the players were as surprised as anyone.

Last night, after Mahoney had made his first from the hash no less, couple guys walked by and just tapped him on the helmet as if to so - THATS WHAT WE EXPECTED!!!!

For a true freshman to go out there and nail those kicks, was HUGE - and i'm sorry but those kickoffs were 100% better then last years kickoffs that were coming down at the 35 yard line - we lost the momentum and field position battle every time we scored last year, this year will be much better.

What a difference and to see our new faces contribute in the way these kids did, really indicates to me that our staff is recruiting the types of players we need to take us to the next level!!!!

As memory serves, I believe that was proven to be false.

My wife's new favorite player is Mahoney, that is all she was yelling after his first few kicks. I loved it! How long until we all have this shirt!

I was thinking about Police Academy too... Everyone's trying to come up with a nickname but I'm thinking we just call it like it is; nothing wrong with Mahoney :-)

    Re: Mahoney...

He had a ton of poise last night and it will be a thrill watching him. One thing I noticed is that after he kicked, he kept his leg elevated and pointed at the goal post for a second or two almost like a good follow through.

Wasn't there a poster on here last year that said that giving Mahoney a scholarship was a waste? 3-3 and 5-5 on PAT's You can't get any better than that!!

    Re: Mahoney...

You can see the confidence in him because when he follows through with his kick, he keeps his head down. He doesn't pull it up to see if it's going through. Great form.

Hopefully Guyer can get a little more hangtime on kickoffs with his strong leg. I'm sure he can kick it deep, but that doesn't help if it's only in the air for 2.5 seconds.

yep said something like he was an average HS kicker and stuff. Apparently GC and Jaime Kohl's evaluation of him was better then this HS kid's evaluation.

Here are some of the quotes that he said.

I go to school with Grant and he might be one of the worst kickers I've ever seen. Sorry. Not a great pick-up.

He could barely make his XP's this year.
He was terrible. Too many missed kicks, extra points, not enough on his punts or kickoffs. It was ugly.
    Apparently he improved.

    Re: Mahoney...

During the game last night, Angie said he was so thin, and then started calling him Boney Mahoney. Is that a good nickname? Read the official game thread.

I couldn't come up with anything better, and I do love a good rhyme... He can't weigh more than about 165, can he?? He can weigh whatever he wants, as long as he keeps making those kicks!

    Re: Mahoney...

It was so relieving as a fan to not have to worry about PAT's last night. In the past it was always such a stressful event and we had to watch intensely to make sure we had 7 on the board instead of 6. After his first PAT I didn't pay much attention to the others, I just mentally put 7 points on the board. Having a quality kicking game is so worth the scholarships in my opinion.

    Re: Mahoney...

If he keeps making them, just refer to him as Cash Mahoney.
