Tulsa, UTEP coaches say ISU hasn't called
    BY RANDY PETERSON

    November 20, 2006

Two football coaches mentioned as potential replacements to Dan McCarney said today they have not been contacted about Iowa State’s head coaching vacancy.

Tulsa’s Steve Kragthorpe, one of six coaches mentioned on The Des Moines Register’s Web site poll, said: “I have had no contact (with Iowa State) at all.”

Texas-El-Paso’s Mike Price, another coach whose name has been linked to the position, responded to the Iowa State question with a sense of humor.

“I thought Steve Kragthorpe was going to Iowa State,” Price cracked, before quickly adding “just kidding.”

Oh, well, maybe Jamie has already made up his mind???? I was hoping Price at least got an interview. Are these guys just saying "no contact" to stay under radar??????????????

Who knows. It's either going to be someone we thought all along, or it will come out of left field.

This story was posted as of 4pm today on the DMR's website.

I wonder though, when they actually spoke to both coaches, because I've heard otherwise.

I don't think either one of these coaches seasons are over. If either coach would of said that they were considering leaving for Iowa State in an interview i would of been much more suprised then them saying i have had no contact with ISU.

Once and for all....that doesn't mean anything. ISU has hired a headhunting firm out of Atlanta to help with this search. If they are involved, it's actually true that "IOWA STATE" hasn't called...but the firm ISU has hired probably has....very smart move if you ask me.

Per Tom Dienhart at The Sporting News: 'The ISU brass is trying to be as secretive as possible. In fact, I also was told that Iowa State is being assisted in the search by an Atlanta-based firm.'

Probably not right calling it a 'headhunting firm', but that really is what it is when you get right down to it. We hired the same firm when we got Pollard I believe.

I've heard nothing that even remotely close supports any sort of rumor that a search firm was hired.

    Re: Des moines Rag

It has been confirmed on another site. And from what has been stated, it is not hriing a full search firm, it is more hiring its services. For contacting agents, background checks, etc...

    Re: Des moines Rag

The firm that ISU has helping out is more along the lines of an ADP-type company; they do background checks, reference checks, contact potential agents, investigative work, etc. That is what I've been told anyways.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.
