ISU vs. iowa Who ya got?

With just a few games under both teams belt. How do you all see that game shaking out in Iowa City? I think ISU 57 iowa 52.

Much as I hate to say it, I see EIU winning 75-65. I think home court advantage will be enough to let the Hawks more or less control the tempo. Our young guys will be still getting used to each other and I have reservations about how well they wil be able to handle road games early in the season.

I don't think Iowa has the weapons to outscore us by much if at all. As long as we keep the turnovers in check I think we will take it. Don't put too much stock into the crowd at Carver Hawkeye Arena, they don't intimidate many teams.

You are aware they are on like a 20 game home winning streak? And yes, Iowa rolls in this one, especially since they'll probably have Henderson back.

Of course, if Haluska decides to hang out and jack up threes all day, it could be another story. And we have some time to get better. But I just don't see it happening at all.

Iowa by more than 5 unless we step it up. I just think we are a year away from beating anyone moderatley good on a regular basis.

Yup, if Adam plays like he did last year against us (CLANK!), we have a shot. Otherwise, I'd take Iowa at this point.

Ask me again after the MN, Drake and UNI games.

I'm reserving my judgment until after Tuesday. I just haven't seen enough to properly evaluate this team, even though I've watched every game so far.

That team that won 20 in a row also had Horner and Bruner.

Re: ISU vs. iowa Who ya got?

I agree Ryan, but that team that had Horner and Brunner got waxed by us in Hilton. And we weren't great last year. Either way, they beat some good teams in Carver last year and it wasn't just because they had the best talent all the time. I highly doubt it was because they had better coaching when they throttled MSU there.

Let's face it, Carver can be a tough place to play when the Hawks are on a roll. When they are not good and there are off the court problems distracting from the team... well it can be a little cavernous in there.

Re: ISU vs. iowa Who ya got?

If we can hold our turnovers to 15 or less AND attempt at least 10 more FT than the Squawks, we will have a great chance. I think they will struggle to score vs our half-court set so not giving them runouts off of turnovers will be key. Shooting more FT means we have attacked the basket. The frequency of winning when you shoot more FT than your opponent is unreal. Of the two keys, it will be tougher for us to keep the TO's to under 15, IMO.

We need to get them in foul trouble early. Especially Tyler Smith. He's shown he can put up the points, but has issues defending without fouls.

Re: ISU vs. iowa Who ya got?

Haluska is inconsistent, and he's really not going to like the defensive intensity and quickness of our Cyclones. We'll have Hubalek starting and we've got plenty of depth to keep players fresh.

I would be impressed with a win, but not surprised. Don't sell our guys short on account of Iowa this year. They lost their core, just like us.

Re: ISU vs. iowa Who ya got?

Did anyone else have fun yelling at Brunner all the time? My roommates and I used to give him hell all the time, for no reason other than he was Greg Brunner. But who can I berate mercilessly now?

Watching Haluska fall apart last year was priceless. I would anticipate that he puts forth a much better effort this time.

As for prediction, I'd spot the Hawks by about 5-10 points, but if we improve by beating Drake and take one of the two road games against Minnesota and UNI, I think we have a good chance at pulling one out. I'm kind of shocked that Iowa's not in the Top 25 again this year, since they always are, but any road win over a major conference team would be huge.

I do not see Iowa as being able to score 75 on us, even with it being at Carver. I think as of right now we lose 63-58, if they score more than 70 I will be very surprised. I hope Haluska has another Alabama game against us.
