Was Iowa State using I-STATE in 1995? Look at this>>

    Hi all:

Research continues. I was watching YouTube videos of ISU again, and aided by another post on this forum, I watched ISU with Troy Davis and Gaston Norris take on UNLV in 1995 and I saw something that I had never noticed before. Below are two separate screen captures taken from the YouTube video [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7QOmhEoWIM&feature=related"]HERE.[/ame]

Now, call me crazy, but is that a huge "I" in the middle of the field?

I have never seen that ISU logo before and it looks really interesting to me. Does anyone have a better version of that logo? It appears to be an "I" with an "S" wrapped around it in a cyclonic manner.

Thanks to anyone who can shed more light on this subject.

The intertwined I and S were at mid-field for maybe one season. I liked that it looked the same from either side of the field.

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.

Actually, the I state was used in the mid 70s on the basketball uniforms. It is identical, except the I is yellow and the state in red. It is on the side of the shorts. There is a picture in the ISU Bomb. It has been posted here in the past.

No, but I have a clock from 1970 and Cy has I-state on his chest. The state is straight and not curved but it is remarkably similar. I'm not quite sure how to attach a photo.

And if you slow the video down frame by frame, you can see a second Cy in the book depository behind the grassy knoll.

That's the same logo I've seen in pics from the hoops jerseys in the 70s. Like you said, same except state is not curved.

In the 1970s (and maybe until about 1983), the marching band had I-State on its uniforms. Just like the new logo, except "State" wasn't curved.

That 1995 logo may be for the Iowa State center. Regardless, even in my youthful freshman stupor at the time I recall it being poor branding to have all these disparate brand marks all over the place.

The intertwined "IS" was on the turf for only one season (1995) thankfully.

If memory serves me well Jim Walden wanted a logo on the field that looked the same no matter what side of the field you were sitting on and I am pretty sure it went on the field before 1995, I thought it went on the field the same year as the 100 yr anniversary of cyclone football.
