    Johnny Orr

I saw Coach Orr at Panera in West Des Moines last week and the memories always come roaring back when I see him.

What are some of your favorite Johnny Orr quotes? Try to keep them as clean as possible, this is a family sight.

"Profanity is the Crutch of Inarticulate Mother ****ers"
The Wall in the Bathroom at People's

    Re: Johnny Orr

    Something like

"There were 4 good players in the state this year. We got two of them. One didn't qualify, and the other went to Iowa, which is about the same thing"

    Re: Johnny Orr

He spoke at an alumni dinner at my fraternity. Someone asked his opinion of Dick Vitale.

    Johnny - "He's an a**hole!"

The ESPN selection Sunday interview with Vitale and Valvano.

His entrance at every basketball game.

And my favorite quote "David Moss has the longest arms I've ever seen on a white guy".

ISU fans are the greatest in the world. All they ask for is hope and the belief that we have a chance to win every time we step on the field - Johnny Majors (paraphrased)

    Re: Johnny Orr

Not a quote, but a story. I spent 4 years with the pep band, and at the end of every basketball season, each member of the band would get a thank you letter from Coach Orr. I thought that was a very classy move by a guy who had plenty of other things to spend his time doing.

I probably shouldn't repeat this, but...

Naw, better not. Had to do with his thoughts about Iowa--and a private conversation. Let's just say Johnny didn't like Hawkeyes.

Some of my favorites were when JO went on Channel 13's Beat the Bear with Jim Zabel and Rick Silvestrini, and JO made Zabel look like a complete fool...

Ripping refs at a press conference and getting suspended a few games the next season because of it.

Not being in the pep band, I did not know this...but I am not surprised. I was at most of the Cyclone Club meetings around the state for a couple of years in the mid 80s with Johnny and he is truly a great guy.

I read on this site about us needing to have a "swagger" in certain sports...Johnny gave us that in BB. The guy was an elite coach and he chose to move to ISU from Michigan at the height of his career. He quickly built ISU into a winner and gave us some sorely needed athletic tradition.

    I absolutely love Johnny Orr!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

My favorite memory was Johnny getting into a scuffle with the Hawk assistant following an ISU victory

    Carrying the banner for ISU.

Amen! I tear up thinking about those Cyclone memories. (Happened a lot on the 100 years DVD)

The Cyclone teams he coached while I grew up are the reason that my wife and I bought season tickets once we could afford them. Awesome times, coming back soon

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!
