    Ouch!

Wouldn't want to be a ball-carrier having him bearing down on my. That's a whole lot of crazy, IMO.

i say dumb. This guy has all kinds of talent. He's risking his career by playing. How many doctor's opinions did he get?

As of yesterday lunch time -was looking for a fourth.

Apparently found the one he was looking for, the first three said surgery.

unless you're Maurice Jones-Drew, in which case, you're not scared at all.

Re: Merriman will forgo surgery, play with knee injury

Yeah, he got at least 4. I'd venture to guess regardless of what the 4th said (do we even know?), he would have ignored it - since he didn't heed the advice of the other 3.

I to think it's dumb. Yeah, I like his dedication - but he's still very young with many, many years ahead of him. Be smart. Knees are nothing to fool around with - especially for a football player that could be on the field for upwards of 10 more years.

I bet he's done for the season before the midpoint of the season, either coming to his senses or getting hurt worse.

Re: Merriman will forgo surgery, play with knee injury

I would say dedicated. I would have to guess the severity of the tears aren't serious. A lot of players probably play with tears and don't even know it. Merriman got like 4 different opinions so he definitely did his due diligence before making a decision.

I think the real question is why did he wait until the beginning of the season to make this decision? He should have gone through all of this and got it checked out at the end of last season.

10 bucks says the 4th doctor was Dr. Nick Riviera.

But did he get so many opinions because he didn't like the previous ones he was given? He might have kept seeking in order to find the answer he wanted.

Like I mentioned above, the first 3 opted for surgery. So it would appear that his due dilligence was limited to the answer he wanted.

But I agree on "why now". And that seems to be a more common theme with pro athletes. Alot of FB players getting surgery in June and July instead of Feb and March. I used to complain about that with Cubs pitchers. Didn't seem to do much Oct - Jan. But once reporting time came around, they suddenly needed to get that shoulder scoped.

Would seem alot of them get their payday, then try to work as little as possible (not that I neccessarily blame them)

Dumb. It's not worth ending a career to play on torn ligaments.

Re: Merriman will forgo surgery, play with knee injury

Considering Dr. James Andrews gave the opnion of surgery, AND it was career threatening...I'd vote DUMB. Andrews is arguably the most respected in his field. For him to say even after surgery that the injury is career threatening...Yikes. He is going to potentially ruin his quality of life. He is also going to be highly ineffective. That weight and movements needed to be successful at what he does. Sorry, this is a trainwreck in the making.
