    Rosenfels/Wallace

    Didn't see this posted anywhere...

SI.com article ranks the two of our alumni as some of the best backups in the game and very serviceable when called upon. Nice job fellas!
    Ranking each team's No. 2 quarterback - Don Banks - SI.com

    .....................................
    3. Houston: Sage Rosenfels -- He may not be a guy who can play at a high level for more than four or five games in a row, but let's not forget that Rosenfels went 4-1 as a starter for the Texans last year, with a four-touchdown relief performance in a loss to Tennessee. Houston starter Matt Schaub, by comparison, was 4-7.......................................
    6. Seattle: Seneca Wallace -- This is probably higher than most would have Wallace, but I'm fairly sold on the ex-Iowa State star, who threw for three touchdowns a couple weeks back against Minnesota. I know this much: After his preseason showing this year, Charlie Frye isn't beating out Wallace for the Seahawks No. 2 job...............................

I would love to see one or both of those guys find a starting job somewhere, even if it's the armpit of the NFL (Lions), just to show what they can do for 16 games.

Griese as #2 really ruins that list though...

Charlie Frye has fallen and fallen hard. It will be interesting to see what the Seahawks do with him.

    Re: Rosenfels/Wallace

I thought Frye was looking good for a while the other night when I tuned in. I didn't see the early part of the game, popped in around the 3rd quarter sometime.

Was hoping he'd play well so Wallace could get on the field elsewhere. I'd love to see him at QB, but Matt isn't going anywhere and it seems Wallace is content to remain in Seattle.

    Re: Rosenfels/Wallace

Remember when Wallace was drafted and all the "experts" knocked him because he insisted that he was a quarteback, and didn't want to switch to another position? He took a lot of heat for that, and probably lost some draft status. Is anyone making that same argument now?

That's great, but i'd really prefer it if we had an alum ranked in the top ten starters in the league. C'mon, Austen!

    Re: Rosenfels/Wallace

Rose has one of the sweetest gigs around: his last contract he signed pays him over a million a year, in a state with no income tax, to be a backup QB.

Frye was looking good for the most part until he got hurt. I'm glad they're letting him have most of the snaps lately to get him comfortable in the backup role.

Holmgren is on record that they want Frye becoming servicable at #2 so Wallace can move to WR and be on the field more often. However, after watching how Frye started to fizzle as the game went on then get hurt I'm not so sure anymore.

For the record, Seneca looked terrible coming in after Frye went out. Chalk a lot of it up to being completely unfocused. He wasn't supposed to play in the game at all. It showed, he just wasn't up to the speed of the game...and this was with 2nd and 3rd stringers in...

And the reason he wasn't supposed to play was because he's hurt. What did they say--lingering groin injury?

Yeah, I think so. Not a bad idea to keep him out injured or not. Frye needs those snaps.

    Re: Rosenfels/Wallace

Right now I'd stick Brodie Croyle of the Chiefs about 10th on that list which is sad to say because he's the Chiefs starter! Heck the Chiefs used to have #1 on the list in Todd Collins as well at Trent Green but I'd take any on those list besides Green, Griese, and Grossman over Croyle right now. Sadly I hate to say this as a Chiefs fan but I hope the Chiefs suck this year and Croyle flops because I'd like to see them make a deal for a guy like Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson and fire both Herm and Carl Peterson who is in year 20 of his "rebuilding plan" now. Croyle is not going to be an above average NFL starter, heck maybe not even an average one.

If Seneca looked bad (which he did) because he was slowed with the groin, no biggie.

If he looked bad because he was unprepared, not expecting to play, shame on him. A backup QB's job is to always be ready because ya never know when the starter will go down.

Frye was suppose to play the whole game, then he got hurt. Seneca wasn't going to play unless Frye got hurt, and it happened.
