    Soriano to Cubs?

I don't know how many other cubs fans hit this sit, but I am sure one. This is a pricing but awesome addition if it holds true. I am anxious to see if they put him in the outfield, or if DeRosa was more of a bench player and they put Soriano at 2nd.

I would like to see them keep him in the infield, and keep Cesar around too. We could have the best infield there is.

Cubs win, Cubs win. This is a winner in my book.

    Re: Soriano to Cubs?

even after resigning Ramirez and Wood and signing DeRosa and now Soriano, Hendry says he's still looking for 2 quality starters! Finally we may not be the lovable losers...

    Baseball.

Is that the sport with the ball that looks like it belongs on a pool table and the long wooden mallet?

    Re: Soriano to Cubs?

The will more then likley throw him in center field, I'm guessing they are no longer going to persure Juan Pierre, mainly because Penilla has stated many times that he thinks Soriono is the best lead-off hitter in baseball right now. The cubs opneing day starters should be (in no particular order)

    C-Barrett
    1- Lee
    2- DeRosa
    S- Izturis
    3- Rameriz
    L- Murton
    C- Soriano
    R- Jones

The cubs now need to pick up a SOLID starting pitcher, as well as a solid 3 or 4 spot starter that does not require a huge contract. It will be interesting to see what Hendry does.

    Re: Soriano to Cubs?

its a shame to give three prospects for pierre to only have him for one year.

They definately need to focus on the pitching now. Thats the bigger void.

ISUFann22, you could be thinking of cricket?
Baseball involves a wooden stick. LOL.

I could be wrong, maybe they will still persure him, but I am just highly doubting it right now!

I really hope so, having Zambrono, Zito, Prior, Hill, and Miller would be nice, but I think we still need to go after one more starter for insurance on Prior and Miller.

Wait...baseball is the game with the really small white ball and the long, narrow stick with an odd-shaped head on it!

    Can't believe I forgot that...

    Re: Soriano to Cubs?

If they're willing to shell out $17 million a year, wouldn't it have made more sense to give it to Beltran when they were after him? He got a 7 year deal opposed to an 8 year deal (Soriano will be 38 when the deal is over, assuming he didn't lie about his age to start), he's never played CF, Beltran is a gold glover and much younger, and now all of the Cubs' power comes from the right side. It seems odd that they'd shell out that kind of money when saying no to Beltran.

    Re: Soriano to Cubs?

I was pretty happy to hear the Soriano signing. Just need some quality starting pitching now and some bench depth.

I'm not sold on Izturius from what we saw of him last year but if he can ever get back to where he was with the Dodgers before the injuries he might be ok.

Yup sorry, no mallet used. LOL

First, I hope they still pursue Pierre. To have Pierre, soriano, lee, ramirez would be awesome. This guy does deserve to try the market, but i would hate to see him leave, or at least have us try to keep him.

Pitching wise, we did sign wood to a one year deal. But he is definitely looked at as a reliever, not a starter. When it comes down to Prior, they have said before they are not relying on this guy until he proves in spring ball that he can do it. With that said, prior and wood are both out of the picture.

Miller did come back without injury towards the end last year, but i dont considered him an option until spring ball either. To much out in the air for him right now to be a guy to rely on. With the signing of cotts, I think they may be looking at him to be a possible starter. The young relieve in the fall league is tearing it up right now and is clearly going to be in the majors at the start of the season. So the rotation looks something like this.

Zombrano, ______,_______,Hill, Cotts. That is a shacky line up going into spring training. Now there are 5 individuals who will havmmer it out for the other two spots, maybe other three depending on cotts performance. That is a good thing to have. Marshall showed some skill as a rookie, but also had some inconstancy and injuries.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I hope they are still going after Pierre. It wouldn't hurt to have that speed, even if it is in the 2 spot. Soriano isn't a center fielder either.

As of right now, it looks like the Cubs are winning the off-season acquisitions.

    Re: Soriano to Cubs?

I think a main reason why I tend to dislike MLB is because the players get paid millions of a dollars a year to catch a ball and swing a bat. Then they whine about not getting a payraise to pay for their new island in the bahamas. I guess it's the way for most pro sports, but at least for the football, they have to actually exert themselves (only the pitcher in baseball exerts himself) and pose the real risk of getting injured on every play.

Maybe I'm just biased, or maybe I just don't care a whole lot for pro sports... I think it's just both.
