What type of player is SJ?

For those who have SEEN Sed Johnson play...at one of the scrimmages, high school, whatever...what type of player is he?

Arnaud says he's an "athletic freak" - which can only be a good thing, obviously. I'm curious what to expect though. Is he really fast? Is he a jump-ball type WR like Blythe? Can he make plays after the catch? Is he a really 6-4 200lbs? Can he be a stud for us even though he's a true freshman?

Any insight would be great. I've read the practice reports but it's hard to get a feel what he's really capable of. My gut says he's gonna be a stud...but I want the inside scoop before Thursday :)

I am really looking forward to seeing him on the field on Thursday, I hope he gets a chance to make an impact right out of the gate.

he is a 6'-4" 200 lb athletic freak that is fast, can jump and make plays after the catch.

Re: What type of player is SJ?

Remember he is a freshman, but when I watched his AAU teams videos off the Net it was unreal how high he could jump. So basically picture Todd Blythe that is faster and can jump like Rashon Clark. I have no idea how he runs routes, catches or blocks however which is a huge part of being a receiver. I just know he has the goods.

Re: What type of player is SJ?

Starting with an athlete like him and teaching him those things is a lot easier then starting with the fundamentals and teaching him to be an athlete.

I hope he developes during his time here so we won't have a conversation similar to the Todd Blythe conversation regarding SJ,

His official roster ht/wt is 6-4 188, FWIW. That listed 41 inch vertical would be right behind a healthy WJ (42).

Re: What type of player is SJ?

I'm imagining a guy with JJ Moses speed and elusiveness, combined with Blythe height and ups. If he's the raw talent we all expect, the more important factor will be how he develops over time. Blythe and Meyer seemed to peak during their sophomore year and tailed off their last two years. I assume the current coaching staff knows what to do with a guy like SJ and will help him blosom into a first or second round draft pick, but only time will tell.

Re: What type of player is SJ?

I watched him run after he caught the screen pass at the CGC scrimmage and it was AWESOME!!!! He blew past people like they were standing still. Thursday night we will get to see him in action. Is it Thursday yet?

I also heard he can play QB, RB, and may even beat out Reggie Stephens at left guard.

A friend of my cousin, twice removed on my mothers side, says that SJ will be handling all field goal kicking too.

He's better than Jerry Rice and Bill Brasky.

Re: What type of player is SJ?

Hard to say. Randy Moss? No, probably not that good, nor a TO type at the college level. With that much leap and speed though, I hope he is good enough to just make a name for himself. I really like tall athletic receivers with speed though. These guys make so many matchup problems for the opposition, especially if you move the receiver around the field. Linebacker? better get a jam on him. Safety? Probably can't match the breakaway speed. CB? Giving up 6 inches at times, jumpball ISU. The good thing is, Chizik does some great stuff on Offense. Motion, Trips, 4-wide. I like that he keeps the defense guessing. Give it time with added talent and we could really have some fun football to watch in the Jack.

    I can't wait for Thursday........
