He hit the nail right on the head about our offense last season. Hopefully that changes, but McFarland's history tells me otherwise.

better leadership at QB will change that this year.

I hope you are right, but if you look at McFarland's offenses over the years, they have had trouble scoring in the red zone. Maybe this is the year all that changes and if the running game improves like everyone says it will certainly make a difference.

I think the team is out for blood this year. QB is the peice that has been missing. Lets hope it starts to fit now.

It seems their coach is a realist, which I like in any coach. He doesn't put a spin on anything and is rather straight forward with his analysis of not only his team but ISU. Looking forward to a good game on Thursday, but really hope to see ISU take it to them.

JS: Defensively they'll be real tough. Coach Chizik is building the program and building it the right way with defense. We expect a real battle and hope to also make some plays in the kicking game.
Well, if that doesn't just smack of confidence...

After years of "run it up the middle on third and long", I'm glad to see that other teams are having a tough time preparing a strategy for us.

I'm not sure what you mean here. What I got out of that was that we ran so many offensive sets last year that opponents are having a difficult time preparing for us. That's good.

What! A shotgun draw to Davis up the gut won't fool them on third and long...again

    /end sarcasm.

It's the first part: getting in the red zone but not scoring....

What I take from this is: SDSU has a good QB, crappy O-Line, and crappy RB on offense, and questionable corners on D.

I think in the beginning we'll be in control, but I'll be feeling cautious if we got up 2 scores on them, just because I saw how last year QBs could pick apart our defense when they were in the prevent.

That said, it looks like a win for ISU (which I'm sure none of us really question). What I'm looking at is: is it an ugly win or not? I know we shouldn't complain about wins, but I also want to see the team looking good...

I'll never forget the 3rd and longs when the students would start chanting "draw to Davis" and the coaches rarely failed to disappoint us.

Generally in the red zone it's the running backs or offensive line that is the problem--maybe not good enough wideouts or tight ends. The quarterback is usually the last person to blame. Our offensive line certainly will be better, especially than over the last few seasons, and there is a reason they signed Jeremiah Schwartz. And as far as the wideouts --'nuff said.

Re: Some interesting quotes from S.Dakota St. coach on Iowa State on Scout

    "
JS: I would have to say the secondary. It's coming along a little slower than we wanted. We don't have two corners that have clearly proven to be the starters. It's a battle everyday at that position. The safety position is a little ahead because there is more experience at that position. Our corners really need to mature."

This is what I looked at. If their secondary is rough, that bodes well for AA and PB to get the needed confidence and to have some WR break a tackle and make a big play. We need to see some big plays in this game, just to make other teams prepare one more area of concern.
