What'd be great is if they had a better following show up in Ames than a few of the Big 12 schools (Colorado, I'm looking at you.)

I guess proximity does help a whole lot, though.

You'd think they will bring in more then 3,000 fans? South Dakota isn't that far away.

Re: SDSU pumped to play in Ames...

Nice to find a couple morons posting some things at the end of that article. I will be upset if this game is closer than 14 points.

I think the big reason why we lost those 3 games against lesser opponents is we gave up roughly 765 turnovers in 3 games. You can't do that against Bondurant's team and win. They are forgetting it was year one of a new staff and things are different now although still only year 2. The only chance they have to win this game is if our New Guys have a COMPLETE meltdown.

I understand their excitement. I would be too if I where them... But if we don't light up and smoke a school that has a total of 1,500 season ticket holders, we should probably just go out back and end it.

Re: SDSU pumped to play in Ames...

i dont know exactly what grounds SDSU fans have to base their projected win upon.. even though we werent good last year, it is still a stunner anytime a middle of the road 1-AA team beats a BCS school. and lets not kid ourselfs SDSU is okay for a FCS team, but UNI was a GREAT FCS team right up there with app. state

I would be more nervous if we were playing NDSU this year. They are picked to be 1st in the Missouri Valley. SDSU is picked 6th.

Re: SDSU pumped to play in Ames...

This reminds me a lot of 2004 when a lot of people, including UNI's players said they were going to beat us. It just has that same feel to it. Coming off of a terrible season and everyone basing their predictions off of what we did the year before. I really don't have the ill-will that some here do towards Meyer and Blythe. They put their time in and did what they could, imo. Still, I do believe this year we are better off without them. I can't help but feel they were the last remnants of a McCarney era offense that never really lived up to what it should have after the 2002 OU game.

Oh well, not to get too far off on that stuff. I just feel that a lot of people are looking at us based on our over all record and not how the season actually played out on the field. Then again, I can't blame them. We did lose what, on paper, looks like out 2 biggest things on O and we went down to a 1AA (Sorry, I forget what they call it these days.) in poor fashion. So, in a way, they've got some room to be optimistic. Hopefully they come out a little over confident and we slap them in the face. That could be the best thing to happen to us.

I can tell you my ill-will is toward the Offensive Line back then and the fact that we didn't have one. Meyer was never the same after is Freshman year. When you can't get a throw off and Blythe can't run a route because Meyer is already on his back is a problem.

Call me crazy but I don't forsee this game being all that close. I think ISU starts sluggish for obvious reasons but starts to get it together and then rolls. ISU 38 JackRabbit U 10

I agree with Handsanitizer and superdorf. We should blow a team like this out. Plain and simple. I understand we aren't the cream of the crop in the BCS, but we should beat South Dakota St. by AT LEAST 14 points. I think we should be up 14 at half. I really hope this is a no-competition.

Re: SDSU pumped to play in Ames...

We need to make a statement to our players, fans, sportswriters, broadcasters, and recruits. Winning by 20 will do that. It will get the monkey off our back. Even if we decide to rest our starters, our backups are nearly as good at every position. Next week we play Kent, so we won't need to hold back/look forward. If we use game 1 as a barometer for the season, then 20+ pts means a possible bowl game (7 wins), 10-12 pts means the pundits are right - we really are the 80th best team (5 wins), a loss or narrow victory and it's 2006-2007 all over again.

That being said, we don't want to publicize our playbook or risk injuries in our opener. I think game 2 would be played more conservatively than game 1. We all know that game 3 will be much tougher than the first 2.

Re: SDSU pumped to play in Ames...

Man, I hope we shut them out. It's just sad that a 1-AA team can have that much confidence against us. We did it to ourselves based on our last year, but it still isn't right.

Did anyone else find this hilarious?

A pharmacist from Newton, Iowa, he graduated from SDSU in 1963 but has held University of Iowa season tickets for more than 20 years.
