My Top 5 Favorite College FB Stadiums.

    1. Rice University.

When I lived in Houston, I would go to Rice games just for the heck of it b/c it such a cool, well designed venue - the best I've ever seen. They played the '77 Superbowl there. Both End Zones are bowled in; it's never full, great view from any ticket seat. It seats 77,000 but you never feel you're in a Nose Bleed secton.

    2. Kyle Field - Texas A&M.

Probably more so for the game atmosphere, but the stadium is pretty well designed and good upper deck seating. Good tail-gate place.

    3. Folsom Field - Colorado.

I like stadiums that are on, or close to campus. You can see the Rocky Mountains. Plus the press box and exterior buildings are made out of Limestone (I think). Nice bowle- in design; good seating and it's kind of connected to the old Armory where you can hang out at half-time.

    4. Kinnick Staium - EIU.

Please don't take away my Alumni Association membership. I grew up in IC and sold popcorn in Kinnick as a kid. I know there's no room for Tailgaiting, but inside the stadium, both end zones are bowed and the fans are right on top of the field It gets real loud. The Press Box runs almost the entire lenght of the field and doesn't look like a High School. The seating is built-up, so it eliminates most of the wind-tunnel effect. When you folks go to IC for the game this year, you'll be impressed with the new brick facade and Kinick statue outside the South Endzone.

    5. The Rose Bowl.

If you ever get a chance, just go.

(I've never been in Kinnick without the accompanying 60K a-holes, so perhaps that would alter my perception)

LOL - not to mention all 60K of the tailgators have to pee under the Melrose St bridge b/c you can't find a port-o-potty.

Re: My Top 5 Favorite College FB Stadiums.

Everybody should post your top 5 NOT including Jack Trice as of course that should be number one. I'm only posting stadiums I've watched a game live in person.

    5. Kinnick Stadium - bash me if you want but it is a very fun place to watch a game.

    4. Sun Devil Stadium

    3. Memorial Stadium - Nebraska

    2. Camp Randall - Wisconsin

    1. Autzen Stadium - Oregon

My favorite changes from week to week, because it's wherever the clones are playing.

That being said, I love OU's stadium. I've been there several times over the last few years and the fan intensity and structure (dead center of campus, unbelievable renovations in the last few years) make it a real college football cathedral.

Re: My Top 5 Favorite College FB Stadiums.

Only stadiums I have been to, huh. Not a long list. And rather boring list.

    Bill Snyder Family Memorial Stadium
    Jack Trice Stadium
    UNI Dome
    Kinnick
St. Louis Trans World Dome or whatever it is now.
    Hubert H Humphry Metrodome

Ok... Not hard to rank here.

    JT
    Kinnick
    Bill Synder
Then the domes.. Doesn't matter what order they all 3 suck

Re: My Top 5 Favorite College FB Stadiums.

Kinnick is a nice stadium. It is weird though, I ride my bike past it everyday and it just feels so small, surrounded by buildings and city. Just a weird perception. Jack Trice sits on it's hill and you are usually viewing it from a distance so it has a more majestic and elusive feel, although its obviously inferior capacity-wise and probably aesthetically.

Same for Hilton. It sort of embodies this powerful look. Carver looks like they are trying to hide it.

    Kinnick smells like syrup.

Re: My Top 5 Favorite College FB Stadiums.

While Royal - Texas Memorial is little more than a large concrete block (IMHO), the people there are the friendliest that I've encountered outside of Ames. If you have the chance, go. Wear your Cyclone gear and be prepared to be treated well. Everyone wants to know about Cy, Seneca, Ames food, etc.

Doak Campbell, now that it has the brick enclosure, is pretty nice. I prefer it to the Swamp. Wear your Cyclone gear. They will think you're an FSU fan.

Neyland, again just MHO, is just massive concrete. They seat a ton, so I had to go. Wear your Cyclone gear. They will look at you funny.

Baton Rouge's Death Valley is another place to check out. The stadium is big and loud, and the people (unless you're a Gator) are great. True Southern hospitality. Wear your Cyclone gear. They'll say something incomprehensible (b/c of the booze).

Michie at West Point was one of the best (not that I've been to a ton). The atmosphere was by far and away tops outside of JTS. Another must-see place, especially if it's a night game against a rival or ranked opponent. Wear your Cyclone gear. At least one of the cadets is from Iowa.

Trips to Mizzou and Iowa City did little for me. I would rather catch a Drake game. But by far the worst is Jacksonville U. I think my nephews play on better fields.

    So, here you go...
    1. Trice (I will admit I am extremely biased, but so what.)
    2. Michie
    3. Death Valley
    4. Doak
    5. Royal - Texas Memorial

Re: My Top 5 Favorite College FB Stadiums.

I've only been to DI college games in five places including the Jack, so here we go...

    1. Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, IA (I know...bias, blah blah blah)

    2. Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IA (I put this second because it's where I watched us beat Iowa in '98 )

    3. Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, NE (the crowd brought the house down when the team first took the field)

    4. Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, Norman, OK (actually don't remember it that well, but...)

    5. Metrodome, Minneapolis, MN (...I know this was definitely the crappiest atmosphere I've ever seen for a college game)

Re: My Top 5 Favorite College FB Stadiums.

    1. Camp Randall - hands down top notch. Can't say enough good things about the place. I still remember clinging to my chair in the press box when they played Jump Around. 2. Notre Dame Stadium - It also helps that they bring in some great teams like Michigan and USC. I saw them beat Florida St in '93. 3. KU Memorial Stadium - been there three times and got after it each time. Seemed to always meet some great looking fun chicks so that always changes your perception. 4. K-State and Snyder Family Field was OK, and we won the game so that helped. Tailgated right in the stadium's shadow. I really hate purple though. 5. Kinnick - belongs on this list IMO. You can hate EIU all you want, but the atmosphere is solid. Also seen games at Illinois and Oklahoma but I likely wasn't in the right spot because they appeared to suck. Note - for some reason can't get spaces to show up. Sorry.

the only problem I have with kinnick is the stands get really steep. But I think it's cool that the city is built around it. Imo

Re: My Top 5 Favorite College FB Stadiums.

Alright, here's my list from my travels.

    Top 4
    1. Ohio Stadium - Most intimidating thing I've seen. Over 100,000 people and they're all right on top of you.
    2. Memorial Stadium (NU) - Most organized fans, really into all the cheers. (Still hate the Huskers, though)
    3. Kinnick
    4. The Big House - A lot of people, but almost too spread out, not nearly as intimidating as Ohio Stadium.

    Bottom 4
    4. Ryan Field (NW) - Hey, at least they made half of it look like a college football stadium.
    3. Indy Bowl - Had a great time, but kind of a dump.
    2. Memorial Stadium (Illinois) - Some old stadiums are nostalgic and cool, while others are just old. Thank God they're renovating this place.
    1. Southern Illinois - I know this is a 1-AA (or FCS, whatever) team, but this has got to be easily the biggest craphole stadium I've ever wandered into.
