    No Cy-Ride Football Shuttle...

I just stumbled across this today:
    CyRide - Football Shuttle

CyRide will NOT operate shuttles to the home ISU football games this year. Please use our normal routes to get to/from the games.
That really stinks. I used it a lot last year when I wasn't tailgating. It made it easy to get to and from games.

    Re: No Cy-Ride Football Shuttle...

That's bad news even for those of us who have never ridden the shuttle. Taking it away means more cars and traffic near the stadium.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

You might have been about the only one. Low ridership is cited as the reason for pulling the plug.

Yeah... I sent JP an email this morning and he said the same thing...

That is too bad, I thought it was relatively busy each time I used it.

    Re: No Cy-Ride Football Shuttle...

Well, as a CyRide employee, I know how they sometimes struggle with getting people to sign up for the shifts, since most drivers are somehow attached to ISU and want to see the games and not have to work. I know I am that way.

I don't know any of the actual ridership numbers, but I always thought the shuttles were well traveled, especially after the games.

Guess that explains why there was low ridership if some people didn't even know about it.

It picked up people at various spots around campus and dropped them off south of Stephens Auditorium. Then you could get back on at the same place after the game and take it back to campus. We used it once but elected to walk from campus the next time because it was just as fast once you considered the amount of time it took to get everybody on and off the bus at each stop. I could see it being useful for elderly people and people with kids, though.

I expect to see an extremely packed HyVee parking lot when I show up late from now on. :)

The Red Route gets you close enough that a shuttle isn't really even necessary for campus...Green/Blue to Red and you're set.

However, these shuttles were extras because the amount of people trying to get on one bus at many stops was simply too many. Depending on where you can get on at, the bus may be full by the time it gets to your stop.

I took the red many times.. even when tailgating. parked at NorthGrandMall and was dropped of on LincolnWay just north of Hilton... A little walk.. but a backpack, a case and myself.. it was easy.

Especially if you are taking the red route on the morning of the IA game. I got on the first bus of the day at the middle school, and by the time we made it to L. Way the bus was packed to the gills. Didn't help that every third person brought a cooler with them...

    Re: No Cy-Ride Football Shuttle...

The reason for no Cyride has nothing to do with low ridership. Apparantly the private chater companies complained it was taking away from their business an because of it, law was passed in the legislature essentially making it illegal for Cyride to have free rides to the stadium.
