    Assistant Coaches

So what do you guys think of the job that the assistants are doing so far? I think we'll probably miss Pre a bit.

    Re: Assistant Coaches

I think they're doing a great job. Coach D-Rob has really helped us with a lot of recruits, and TJ is doing a lot too. Coach Rutter is recruiting several players, and works with the players a lot. Overall, I'd say the assistant coaches are doing a tremendous job.

    Re: Assistant Coaches

I was a little curious as too how much they did in practice. The vibe I was getting was that Pre was pretty well liked, and TJ is on staff as little more than a recruiter, so I'm kinda hoping Robinson can help with the X's and O's a bit.

    Re: Assistant Coaches

I think TJ has the best connections and relates the best to recruits. D-Rob could potentially be better than Pre just because his connections seem to be working a little more to our advantage. Rutter is recruiting quite a bit and I think he does a lot with helping guide the players that we do have.

Overall I can't think of anything I'd change about the staff, other than the fact that HB isn't yet committed

    Re: Assistant Coaches

As far as recruiting vs "coaching" - I'd have to say that each one does their part, albeit to a different degree and covering different things. I would agree that TJ is more or less the recruiting stud and that's perfectly fine with me, as long as he's good at it, why not.

When I was there, TJ seems to work with the guards, Ropbisnon with the bigs, and Coach Rutter with the wings. TJ also helps Diante out a lot before and after practice.

    Re: Assistant Coaches

Rutter is under appreciated. I talked to a few coaches at different camps this summer from other schools that really sang his praises!

Pre leaving was what we didn't need with HB. Small chances got smaller IMO.

I'm hoping that D-Rob and HB hit it off big time. But, as an outsider, hope is all I got -- not inside information ;-)

HB considers himself a SG, according to a quote from him in a story not long ago. cyismydog reports that Coach Rutter works with the guards. Wonder what sort of relationship Rutter has with HB?

Wonder if D-Rob and HB (since both have been traveling widely) have had much of a chance yet to make each other's acquaintance? Probably not much of a chance. . . .

Generally speaking, I understand that personal relationships between coaches and player is the strongest element in a recruiting decision. But that's only a general rule; each situation is an individual case, of course.

    Re: Assistant Coaches

In the end, I wonder about about the relationships Jake Sullivan has with both D-Rob and Rutter; HB never fails to state that Jake is mainly reponsible for his progress and knowledge of the game.

For some reason, this remark is really sinking in with me. Crap, I hope we can land Barnes.
