Brandon Routh Booted As Superman (?)

I'm not a Superman fan at all so I didn't see Superman Returns - but I just saw a new rumor that says Routh is being kicked out of the franchise as they want to go the way of Batman with having one villain per movie and release them more frequently. The new way of the franchise is said to possibly force the retooling of the lead character.

I don't get it, Routh was Superman, not a villain. Wait a minute, he is from Des Moines and attended Iowa, so maybe he is considered a villain.

It's more likely to me that he's just not a big enough star to play Superman...

I'd agree with that, but Christian Bale had pretty limited exposure before the Batman series (although admittedly more than Routh). I was one of the few who loved him in American Psycho (and even enjoyed him in Velvet Goldmine). The only other movie he'd been in that wasn't indie or a period piece (or chick flick) was that Reign of Fire thing. Many didn't know who he was. He, however, is a very dynamic actor (which I don't get from Routh).

they tried to hard to make Superman Returns just like the old Superman movies, they were all pretty corny, the new one too. And its like they made him copy his acting exactly. It needed a breath of fresh air last time, it turned out to just be the 4th superman movie.

Re: Brandon Routh Booted As Superman (?)

I meant that they wanted to change the way the series was put out, thus possibly needing a new main man as the article suggested.

I was actually just looking at some movie reviews and the headline was on one of the sites so I clicked on it.

I don't know if I'd consider them corny. Superman: The Movie is considered by many a great superhero movie. Superman II was the better of the two. Get rid of III and IV. They never happened. It was upsetting that Returns wasn't any better. Especially since Singer left the X-Men franchise to pursue this.

BTW, I wasn't a huge Routh fan. Watch the movie. How can a person who is playing two character, one of them is the title character, have so few lines? Maybe it's ACTING!!!!! BRILLIANT!!!

If you like Bale's acting, then I highly recommend Empire of the Sun. Great film, and very underappreciated:

    Empire of the Sun (1987)

It has Malkovich in it, so you know it rocks.

Bale is the best actor going atm, followed by Russel Crowe. Watch the new 3:10 to Yuma. Fantastic film, great actors, wonderful direction. I liked the original, but this one is even better.

I liked Routh as Superman, but I thought he should be his own character. I don't think they need to try finding a new one again though.

Nothing better than American Psycho, the best black comedy of all time.

Not so sure that I like to take every DC movie towards the dark corridors. That will become overdone eventually. And frankly, I do nopt want to wait till 2012 for Justice league.

OT, regarding Christian Bale, have you seen The Machinist? talk about committing to a role. brilliant and sick at the same time.

No doubt, a very creepy/disturbing movie, and he doesn't even look like the same guy. Bale is in a ton of good movies.
