Have the Bears found their QB?

Since I have nothing to do at work right now, I just wanted to spark a conversation.

Growing up through flag football in elementary to the first time I've put pads on in 7th grade, I've had the opportunity to play with a player who has now become the starting QB for the Chicago Bears. Although never a fan during those high school years as there were too many careless mistakes, lack of concentration, and the knack of choking at the end and whining about it, last night seemed to be the first time I've really seen Kyle Orton step into his own and do well at it. The jitty player that we all saw as a rookie a few years ago is the player I was use to years prior, but last night I didn't see that once.

Although the fist TD pass was a scary one throwing into a three man coverage, every other pass, audible and running of that off season seemed to be some of the best that has come through that city of Chicago in some time. And it took no time to recognize it as one of Grossman's first plays was an overthrown pass to wide open Bradly.

Although I'm not a Bears fan, I would say that the possibility of a successful season still rests on the shoulders of the defense, but the probability of a successful offense isn't out of the question either. If Forte can pick up the load, a WR emerges, and Orton can stay as composed as he showed last night, this team could do above average which has shown is enough to make the playoffs.

I do think the Bears have found their next QB. As they've always said, although Orton isn't as strong for an arm (although strong in its own essence), he never made the mistakes that Grossman made. Now a few years later from the recording breaking rookie season, Orton just might have that maturity and coaching he's needed since high school to become the QB everyone has said he could be. You take a smart QB who can stay composed and make the plays he did last night, you may have yourself your franchise QB. It's a bit premature, but look at what Tom Brady did. This season will tell us if thats that case in Chicago.

To accurately quote that, you'd need to repeat that sentence another 5-10 times.

Orton could be the guy, but not likely.

Re: Have the Bears found their QB?

Orton might be their QB this year but he just isn't the caliber of player, in my opinion, to make them a legit team. He's a fairly consistent QB, but not one that is going to make huge impacts like some of the more "name" QBs.

52% completion, 3 more INTs than TDs and a 62.2 QB rating. The only thing Orton is fairly consistent with is being mediocre, at best. Even ignoring his '05 season, he's only a 53.8% passer.

His QB rating from last season (73.9) would have finished tied for 25th in the league with Eli Manning. So perhaps the goal is to replicate what the Giants did?

I have said it before, the Bears organization will EVENTUALLY realize that a QB is needed to compete at the highest level of the NFL. There is no question that if we had anything that even resembled a QB a couple of years ago we would have won a Super Bowl.

Those aren't terrible numbers considering he has less than 1 full season as an NFL starter. I do think he has the potential to be a decent NFL QB but like others have said, he won't be a top QB in the league.

At least he has an amazing WR group to throw to led by 83 year old Marty Booker. Ok, ok...so at least he has good RBs to take the pressure off him, a rookie and Adrian Peterson #2. AND he has an All-Pro OL to protect him.

Offensively, its going to be a brutal year.

How many years has it been now? I don't know if they will come around or there is hope from the fans that they'll finally realize they need to make adjustments. Sometimes you just can't fix stupid.

It's debatable, as the AFC has been proving to be the dominant team. It would be like me saying there is no question the Patriots are better than NYG, the Giants just ran through a lucky stretch. I believe it to be true, however it's not a "no question".

I think the Manning and the Colts did only what they needed to in order to win that Super Bowl. If the Bears had a more viable QB for that game, Indy simply would have unleashed more power.

Not horrid numbers, no. But far from anything you want to see from your QB. The ranking speaks for itself.

And as noted, it will be very tough for him to succeed this year without much talent around him. It's as if the Bears have set him up to fail, only to go back to Sexy Rexy.

That definitely is the reason. Kind of like Peyton Manning is PM and that means he sucks in morning games. And we can't forget Tom Brady...his initials TB imply that he will contract a deadly disease in the near future. How am I doing?
