    Huggins

So how long before Bobby H. gets nailed for NCAA violations? I find it hard to believe anybody waltzes in to a new job (let alone Manhattan, KS) and bags the #1 recruiting class before he's even coached a game.

    Re: Huggins

The story is that he was recruiting like crazy between Cinncy and KSU. Completely legal since he wasn't on contract with either school. There are some interesting guys in the league...Knight, Huggins, Barnes, just to name a few.

    Re: Huggins

Yeah, he was recruiting players while he didn't even have a school to pitch. The pitch was come play for Bobby H. not come play for University of ?.

Not bad if you can pull it off. I can think of only a few other coaches who could......Coach K for sure.

    Re: Huggins

Yea I read about him recruiting by pitching himself. I dont know how much dirtier Huggins is than anybody else. I do know he is more likely to take shots with kids that have been labeled with character issues like a lot of Jucos. I think it is good for the conference to have him in it. The Big XII still is not respected as a great basketball conference. I think that the middle of the conference getting better will help that. The conference also needs to win a national title to give itself some credibility

    Re: Huggins

I don't know that respect comes from having Huggins in the conference. I'd prefer noteriety that comes from teams winning the right way, not the kinds of things Huggins and Eustachey were/are known for.

As far as NCAA violations, idk if that will ever happen, wasn't he techincally clean at Cincy? I think he clearly had some sketchy individuals on the team, and the graduation rate reflected that, but who are we to talk? Our basketball team hasn't exactly been stellar in that regard lately (as a side note I really hope/expect this to change under McD).

    Re: Huggins

Sure Huggins has a prior drunken driving conviction and the Cincy graduation rate wasn't anything to crow about. However, what else is there about Huggins that would denegrate any success that he might have at KSU? I think a lot of the people that comment that he brings shame on a program are only doing so out of envy.

    Re: Huggins

I dont know why it wouldnt help our conference bringing in a national name at coach. Not to mention some of the best recruits in the nation. I loved Tim Floyd but lets face it, he recruited guys that were already committed to other schools or attending them. He did it when he came to Ames and did the same at USC. I dont think our basketball program can be judgemental of other programs.

I can't remember this happening. Refresh my memory.

    Re: Huggins

Look at his first recruiting class with Cato and Willoughby.

Didn't Willoughby follow Floyd and Cato transfer from somewhere in AL? I don't recall anything shady.

    Re: Huggins

Yeah Willoughby followed Floyd from New Orleans so what are you getting at? Learn the facts before making a post bashing a coach

    Re: Huggins

I don't understand why he would have such a draw with such talented players. He is famous for recruiting great talent and flaming out early in the tournament. You have to wonder about the intelligence of recruits that want to play for him.
