    Computer issues

I've got a work laptop that I'm having issues with. It's an HP Compaq 6510b. The screen is all whacked out. If I set the laptop just right, I have a clear picture. But, it takes some work. Otherwise, there are some lines through it, usually starting at the top. But, sometimes when I turn it on, I don't see anything.

Do I have a loose cable or something? Or something I can tighten to make it better. I'd rather not have to send it away, because I use the laptop for everything, about 80% of that being work, and I would be lost without it. Any help would be appreciated...

Do you have an external monitor that you can plug into it? if you do and the lines are still there.. then I would say it's your video card. If not then it's something with your LCD.

Yes, I do at home. I'll try that when I get home. Thanks

    Most likely loose cable.

Likely a loose LCD cable. Either that or your panel is jacked. neither problem is impossible to fix yourself, but it's not a trivial thing to do either. You'll have to take the laptop probably at least halfway apart.

You're probably better off having someone else do it.

Ok. I've hooked it up to another monitor, and that reception is clear as day. It's gotten to the point that I have to have it in a certain position for it to stay still for awhile. I'm pretty convinced that something is loose.

I'm fairly technologically sound, and feel that I can probably take apart what needs to be taken apart to fix it. But, I'm not sure where to start. I see 2 little screws on the back and left and back right side. It doesn't look like either of those really do anything to connect the monitor to the base.

Are those the screws I need to mess with? Or are there others that I'm not seeing that I need to mess with. Any help is appreciated...
