    So Quiet in Ames

Not much real news has been coming out of Ames the past week or so. The boards here have been a bit slow I guess. No real new info seems to be around. I guess it is the calm before the storm. That or we are very nervious about the season and dont really know what to expect. Maybe the team is quite because they dont want to get our hopes up. I doubt that is true but you never know.

I honestly dont know what to expect out of this season from a Cyclone stand point. How about the rest of you.

I expect a few upsets, a few teams to lose, and maybe 2 teams playing in the national championship game.

    re: So Quiet in Ames

I don't know if it is quiet in Ames. The students are moving back this week, so there's a lot of activity. As for FB, the less news, the better this time of year IMO. The only real news that usually comes out during fall practice is injuries and arrests. I'll be happy if we don't hear anything until right before SDSU.

Could be because the team got Sunday and Monday off, also.

    re: So Quiet in Ames

I wouldn't say it is quite in Ames. It's busy now then it was two weeks ago.

For anyone curious, two lanes of Pammel drive are supposed to open on Thursday with the other two opening next week Friday.

You're statement, quiet obviously, will be debated tell the cows come home. Ive not posted in a while either, but it's is something others may lend they're perspective on.

Two days off with no classes, no instructions, no workouts, no drills. That would seem like an eternity to me.

    Re: So Quiet in Ames

I think expectations are pretty low and this is shown because ticket sales are down (hence Applebees pack, $10 tickets to SDSU game, tickets still available).

I know we have a slow economy and lot of people were affected by tragedy, but the Hawks for example have sold out many of their games, and Iowa City and Cedar Rapids got hit far worse than central iowa. This makes sense because Hawks fans always think they are going to the Rose Bowl....

For me personally, there is nothing to be nervous about. I was here in 2003 when we were horrible, and I put up with the last 2 seasons too. I think we will improve because when you're considered one of the worst teams all you can do is stay the same or go up. I would expect 4 wins out of the team this year, although I hope to see us play close to Mizzou, KU, and Nebraska.

Honestly though, there are no nerves. There is nothing on the line. I'm ready for the season and with this group of players and coaching staff, I know they will do the best they can. That's all I can ask for (this year at least lol)

    Re: So Quiet in Ames

I am just waiting impatiently for the next week to go by so I can finally watch some real football again. All these prediction threads and Hawk bashing get so tiresome by mid-August, I just want something real to talk about again.

A lot of hype prior to the past two seasons, followed by one terribly disappointing season and another somewhat disappointing season, has caused some fans to back off and not invest too much into this season. Jamie Pollard did a marvelous marketing job to motivate fans to buy season tickets the last two years. For a lot of fans it is now time to win more games...(I am not necessarily in this boat, as I would get tickets regardless)

Yesterday at noon, the sign at the corner of Pammel and Stange looked like it was sideswiped. Broke a sand bag open, knocked the sign off one side of the bottom support and was leaning back and to the left. By the end of the afternoon, it was fixed and back in its proper, traffic-intimidating position. Wonder if the car that hit it looked any worse for the wear.
