Marty Tirrell at it again yesterday

Anyone catch M&M around 5pm yesterday? Marty was going bonkers because Shawn Johnson's parents apparently got hooked up with a nice condo in Bejing. He claims it looks bad because of our storm and flood ravaged state right now and they are staying in the "Taj Mahal" and could have made a statement by staying in a lesser place and "given back." Personally if someone else hooked me up and was paying for it I don't see a problem with it and I am sure with all the endorsements Shawn is giving they are going to be giving something back very soon.

One caller pointed out that Marty isn't staying at the cheap hotels or turning down the kickbacks he gets from Jerry Crawford which basically makes Marty a hypocryte for calling out SJ's parents which Marty quickly blew off by saying something like "that's not the same thing." I'm sure he was just stirring the pot yesterday but even Ken went off on him too and thought he had crossed the line this time and was really stretching. Thoughts?

Re: Marty Tirrell at it again yesterday

Yeah, the whole rant was a joke... Seriously, they are supposed to turn down a free place to stay, to pay their own way at a hotel? How does that send a message at all? I am going to watch my bro play in Chicago this weekend and staying in a pretty nice condo too, should I feel bad?

That doesn't even make sense. How would staying in a ****** hotel be giving back at all?

So if I got a raise tomorrow, should I turn it down because there are tragedies in the world?

I don't know why the should be expected to stay in lesser places just because of the floods here. I could see if they were some politicians or something like that where some might take some sort of message out of where they stay, but they have no reason to stay any place in particular just because of the recent floods.

Ask Marty why he stays at the places he does when the company sends him on assignments while people in the radio and news business are getting laid-off all over the country. Remind him that he should make a statement by staying in the roach-coach hotel as a sign of solidarity to his co-reporters. My guess is he'd probably shut up after that.

This was a low blow. I used to like Terrell because he goes way out on a limb on things. Just kind of for shock. After going after a girls parents for staying in a nice place though. He is way out of line.

Actually by staying in the free condo they could donate the money that they would have spent on a hotel to flood victims. Also, Shawn's father has given back in the way of manual labor by rebuilding the floor of Chow's for free and tore his bicep doing so.

Marty was over the top and his argument was weak.

Tirrell is either a genius or an idiot. I vote for the later.

Which, by definition, makes it a typical show for him.

Re: Marty Tirrell at it again yesterday

    Marty,

I (gasp) usually agree with you when you go out on a limb, but you threw Shawn and her family way under the bus. It's none of your business how they choose to deal with finances and the way they live or where they stay when out of town. Her father has given manual labor help to those in need in Iowa and who are you to judge their integrity. I hate to say this, but there ARE tragedies in the world. That doesn't mean we should give up every possible thing we have that would make us appear to have something better than someone else. If you got a raise tomorrow, are you going to say "no thanks, let's donate to this or that cause"? You're a liar if you say otherwise. Can we stick to the positives for once? She did great and she's great for the state and the country.

    Just my two cents.
    -Mike

Good luck with that one. Last time I emailed about something he went off on Marty had nothing to say but "Thanks for listening to the show. 6-2 and even!"

    "bad job outta him"

He kept this would be a good way for her parents to make a gesture. Towards the end he also said he could be wrong with his lame brained idea. I just thought "yup, now why don't u shut up about it cause u are and move on to something else".

As someone somewhat effected directly by the tornadoes. (Four family members lost everything) I have no problem with the Johnson's staying in a free plush condo. I listened to his rant and it was annoying.

Since when did the Floods hit Des Moines where the Johnsons live? I thought that the floods were in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City and were God's punishment on the Hawkeye fans that live there.

If I were them I would stay in as nice a place as they want. This is a "once in a lifetime" experience.
