Nebraska faces their own "Lucca Situation"

Nebraska's trying to get a waiver for a German player they signed last year who..... stop me if you heard this one before, played for a German club team where some players, not him, got paid

    Omaha.com Sports Section

I would hate to see any team go through what we went though last year, but if they grant him a waiver, I will be seriously PO'd

They'd better not allow him to play for the first year.

Christian Niermann... he was actually expected to get the Lucca treatment.

The NCAA has set the precedent. If they overturn the ruling for ANYONE at this point, McDermott and Pollard should apply the camo paint to their faces and storm the NCAA headquarters.

Re: Nebraska faces their own "Lucca Situation"

Nebraska watched the ISU situation very carefully last year, then still offered Niermann a scholarship, so i would assume they expect to lose the appeal. Still, if they didn't try, their fan base would question the AD office.

I think if they won the case, ISU would have a legitimate chance to get Lucca's one year suspension erased, meaning he could play a full four years. But i think there's two chances of that happening, if ya know what i mean...

I believe that he was actually a teammate of Lucca. I don't think that they would even waste the time on an appeal if they weren't desperate for size this year. They pretty much wrote this guy off last winter, but were not able to come up with a replacement in the spring.

A lot of new faces, I think.

I think Strowbridge transferred, Maric is finally out of eligibility. Not sure but I believe another guy who played a lot of minutes transferred as well.

They lost their top recruit Roburt Sallie who was supposed to be an impact Juco guy. He was not eligible to transfer because NU messed up his enrollment as a part time student 2 years ago. Huge loss for them.

I thought they lost a couple more transfers, too, but I can't remember?

Is it true that Cookie will be playing center this year for them?

Re: Nebraska faces their own "Lucca Situation"

They've got four players that redshirted last year, that will be playing this year, including a 6-9 (Alex Chapman, Sophomore) and 6-7 player ( Alonzo Edwards). So it's tough to know what they'll do, really. Doc took a hit last year, with redshirting, to build some depth on the team.

Player-wise, their best returning player is probably guard/swing Ryan Anderson (junior), who was somewhat of a disappointment last year after having a pretty solid freshman year.

They've got no one returning in double digit scoring, and Anderson is the only returning player that averaged 5+ rebounds.

I'd say this team ain't gonna be that good, but it's tough to know until you see the redshirts. The redshirts are all young, though, and i'd expect a lot of inconsistency.

Basically, it sounds like it depends on how good their redshirted class really is, but they're still freshmen.

I thought I remembered doc saying they had 5 players red-shirting last year. Did one of them decide to transfer or didn't make grades?

Of course there's the possibility I'm not remembering correctly also.

I think one of them failed to make it into school. Can't remember who it was now, offhand.

Two of the redshirts, according to Doc at least, were the best two shooters on the squad last year: Toney McCray and Brandon Richardson. So they should have some perimeter shooters. Size and more specifically rebounding will be a big problem.
