    Cameras in Jack Trice

I'd like to take my SLR into Jack Trice at some point(s) during the season. Wasn't sure if it would be allowed. Found the stadium policies online. Under the prohibited list was this: Cameras (professional equipment or cameras with long telephoto lenses). In reality, an SLR with a stock lens doesn't fall under those guidelines, but I'm wondering if they will think it does. Has anyone done this? Or have a better understanding of the procedures? Thanks for any help.

    Re: Cameras in Jack Trice

Depends on the definition of "professional equipment". A SLR body is certainly in the realm of "professional equipment".

If I was charged with enforcing the rules, I'd say no SLRs, just because you don't want to have to train your security folks to be digital equipment experts, and there are obvious physical differences between a SLR and a point and shoot. A Canon 1DS looks a lot like a 450D with battery grip to the untrained observer.

    Re: Cameras in Jack Trice

If you're bringing just a point-and-shoot camera - they won't really say anything. But if you've got an SLR in there...that'll be an issue.

It all depends on if they spot you or not. I have not taken my SLR into the stadium and won't - it's kind of a hastle. I know some that have taken it and had no problems and others that were asked to either put it away or take it back to their car.

At a basketball game last year I took my SLR in and was taking photos for about 10 minutes when I was asked to put it away. A few rows away someone had a point-and-shoot - she had hers out the entire game.

I understand why they have the rules, just depends on if you want to chance it or not.

I carried my DSLR (Nikon D70) into every game last year and security never said a peep to me.

I carried my D80 in last year with no problems. I recommend bringing in one lense on your camera, small case and calling it good.

    Shouldn't be a big deal.

You will be fine. As long as you do not have one of those big paparazzi lenses they are not going to say anything.

So we could take our little Sony Cybershot, then?

The person that I know got asked to return the camera to the car - had a Canon 5D with a 70-200mm lens on it. A bit bigger than some of the SLRs listed here.

Just know while the chances are you'll be ok, they can ask you to put it away or return it.

We haven't been planning to take it. We ride the bus most of the time, so returning the camera to the car could be very difficult.

I'd be shocked if someone told you to remove your Cybershot from the stadium. That's one I wouldn't take in there without hesitation.

We actually took our Sony DSC-V3 (when we had it) a number of times. It was smaller than most SLRs but bigger than many point-and-shoots.

I'm guessing you mean "I would take in there without hesitation."
