    Liang Chow- ISU coach?

On NBC last night, they said Chow use to coach at ISU. Is that right?

I heard the same thing. I can't confirm it though.

I think it's wrong. I think he was a Hawkeye coach until he opened his own gym.

No, it was actually the UofI....the announcer had quite a pause trying to think of the university. he was probably confusing it with Shawn's use of I-state's facitlities while Chow's gym was flooded. but, hey it was a mention.

Pollard ran him off as the fans didn't like the 'thugs' he was recruiting. Pollard was really making a statement about the direction of the program, and replaced him with his own people. The ISU fans were cold and unforgiving...

    I'm sorry wrong thread.

As far as depth goes though, the combination of White, Woodbury, Olaseni, Basabe, and Uthoff is much better than Niang, Ejim, Edozie, Gibson. Not because of the top 2, but because of the next 2 or 3. -DeanVogs

    Re: Liang Chow- ISU coach?

Yeah, the Chow's Gymnastics website confirms that he spent seven years at Iowa...

    Coaching Career
2008 U.S. Senior Elite Coach of the Year
    U.S. National Team Coach
2007 U.S. Senior Elite Coach of the Year
Head Coach of 2007 World Championship U.S. Champion Team
Coach of Shawn Johnson 2007 American Cup AA Champion
Coach for 2007 Pam American Games U.S. Sr. Champion Team
Head Coach of 2006 Pan American Games U.S. Jr. Champion Team
Head Coach of 2006 Pacific Alliace U.S. Jr. Champion Team
USA Gymnastics 2004 State of Iowa - COACH OF THE YEAR
USA Gymnastics 2000 State of Iowa - COACH OF THE YEAR

Seven Years Coaching at the University of Iowa for Both Mens and Womens Teams (5 Gymnasts Who Made the USA National Team)
As I pointed out last night, though, at least the announcer messed up by saying Iowa State instead of Iowa. Usually when an announcer does something like that, it's the other way around.

True. Plus you have to understand that most people outside the midwest (even in some parts of the midwest) confuse the two schools and don't really know where they are.

Well, with his new fame could we get him as a part-time coach. he could send us recruits.

Nah he'll be too busy raking in the cash, telling all of these girls they're the next Shawn Johnson (or having the parents pay him to "make" them the next Shawn Johnson), even though that's impossible.....

I wonder how full his gym got in the last couple of years? Talk about striking oil after only having his own gym for a couple of months.

Wait, when do you think Chow started his gym? He's had it for closing on a decade.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Hasn't Johnson been training there for 12 years?
