Personally playing against/with an ISU football player, past OR present

Okay, okay, so I took this from JDM's site, but it is a good topic.

Any stories about your PT against ISU football players?

Iowa Games in 2001, me and CloneIce played against Seneca Wallace and Atif Austin's flag football team. It was a close game until the end of the first drive.

Back in the day, Mike Banks dominated my team in High School, everytime he touched the ball he would go for at least 15 yards minimum and always falling forward.

I played with Austen Arnaud my senior year of high school. I used to make fun of him that I could sack him when I was on scout D and that I got him ready for D1 football

Re: Personally playing against/with an ISU football player, past OR present

Played with Landon Scrage for a year. He was a soph when I was a sr and he was an excellent DE before becoming probably ISU's best LS.
Danielsen ruined my sr year by throwing a reverse pass to Beau Gibbs (played at UNI) for a TD to give ****-New Hartford their first win EVER over A-P. Gabe Bakker was the QB on that DNH team.
My brother's team whooped up on Shawn Moorehead's Newman team twice. Ryan Kock's team got them in the State Championship though. He was good. Their QB was VERY good and went to a SD school I think.
Played against Matt Bockes in basketball, but never in football. We had some battles. He comes from a good family.
Coached pretty much against any current Cyclone that is from the CIML.
Beat Arnaud's team in the first round of the playoffs his sr year. He was an absolute man amongst boys.
That same year we had just tied up Valley with a couple minutes left and the older Sandvig returned the kick a long ways to set up their winning TD.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

Re: Personally playing against/with an ISU football player, past OR present

being a walk-on at ISU is not a fun thing for the first two weeks. Mac didn't even deal with us at all (not really expected, but still); we were in a separate locker room until we "earned our stripes", i'm pretty sure i don't remember much football in practice, just running (they wanted to see who'd last)... that was my first two weeks of ISU........ ENJOYABLE to say the least

Re: Personally playing against/with an ISU football player, past OR present

In high school I was a pulling guard in charge of opening a hole for the running back. Against Dowling I laid a hit on Tyson Smith and drove him to the sideline resulting in a 10-15 yard gain for our RB. To bad that was like the only highlight for that entire game. But it is my glory day story.

I played D-Line with a guy in high school who recieved a scholarship, but never saw the field for ISU. Guess I probably can't count him as an "ISU football player" then.

I "got" to go against Dennis Gibson in the chutes during football practice at Ankeny High. He was a senior, I was a sophmore... it was not a good day for me. The back of my neck hurt for a few days from getting driven up into the chute frame.

What was worse is there were an even number of guys in the line on each side so I had the pleasure of getting throttled 4 times.

I went to high school with Kevin DeRonde. I didn't play football with him, but I did chuckle every time I saw him in the parking lot crammed into his little S10 truck with his knees about hitting him in the chin.

We have home video at my parents' house of playing against Todd Blythe's Indianola team during my freshman year of high school football. On every single play, the PA would say "Todd Blythe on the run," "Todd Blythe on the tackle," "Todd Blythe on the reception." My dad complained that he must be their only good player if he makes every play.

Little did we know that a few years later he would be breaking ISU records.

Played 3-on-3 pickup game at the Rec against Andy Stensrud the summer before his freshman year at ISU. The other team checked the ball and immediately the guy just chucks the ball at the basket. As I'm thinking to myself, "what a crappy shot", I turn to see Stensrud hauling in the alley-oop for a monster dunk. My team didn't win.
