Re: The U.S. should adopt some of China's laws

It seems to me like China is really right on the edge of a major PR disaster with these games. First they go back on the promise to allow open internet access to journalists, then they rough up a couple Japanese press members. Then you have the random killing of the relative of the US volleyball coach, and now the revelation that they kept some little girl out of a visible roll in the opening ceremonies because she isn't cute enough. I just get this feeling that it is only a matter of time before something really big goes wrong.

The Chinese officials in general have some of the craziest and most far-out dreams and plans that I've ever seen or heard of.

1.) Guaranteeing no rain in the Olympics.
2.) The Chinese men's gymnastics coach said he'd jump off of the tallest building in Beijing if they didn't win the Gold.

I know there's more so you guys can fill them in.

1.) FAIL. It poured on the beach volleyball events.
2.) Well, they pulled this off.... but it would have been interesting to see if he would have actually backed it up!

How about requiring the coaches to sign a contract stating they wouldn't allow athletes to get injured in training... How exactly does that work?

Have you seen any American movies lately or ever?

It appears that China is following in our footsteps.

You mean besides a murder? Reminds me of the Iowa State Daily headline in the 90's, "Stabbing Aside, VESHEIA a Sucess."

I know what you meant though...

The cute girl not singing wasn't the only phony thing about the opening ceremony.

Part of the opening ceremony fireworks were staged for the TV audience. The Chinese didnt trust the fireworks to leave perfect 'footprints' in the air so they electronically inserted the perfect images into the video coverage at just the right time. Per the UK Telegraph..

They are also reminding their police to 'smile' as well.

No offense, but I think we would do the same. If anything I think we glorify beauty more than the Chinese do.
