    Yorkshire Terriers?

    (sigh)

OK, my wife has been begging me for a Yorkshire Terrier puppy for a couple of months now, and I think I'm just about to give in. BUT...they're really, really expensive.

Does anybody know of a place where we might be able to get a Yorkie for a relatively inexpensive amount of money? I'm talking maybe $200 or less. I know that might be unrealistic, but I'm just not going to spend $500 or more for a dog.

    Help...

Someone in my town is selling bulldog puppies for $1,500 a piece. Seriously is a dog worth that much? I paid $30 for my dog and rescued her from the pound. She is the coolest dog ever.

That's what we'd like to do too, but we also want a small dog that's relatively easy to care for and those are hard to find at the animal shelters. We saw a cocker spaniel puppy at one of the animal shelters this past weekend and nearly got it, but we decided against it because we figured it would get too big for us.

Does it have to be a pure bred? I found my dog on petfinder.com

    Re: Yorkshire Terriers?

Ugggh...my grandma had one and all it did was bark bark bark with a high annoying pitches voice. It was a nice dog, but if you don't like barking, then don't get it. My suggestion, get a Shih-Tzu. We got one a month ago. VOurs is very cute, does not bark, does not shed, is pretty smart and doesn't need a ton of exercise (although we give ours little walks frequently).

    Re: Yorkshire Terriers?

We have a Yorkie mix. Pete is 1/2 Yorkie and 1/2 Silky Terrier. He basically looks like a very large Yorkie. He's like 18 pounds. We got him at the Pet Store at Merle Hay like 11 years ago. I am pretty sure that they aren't in business anymore.

I think you can call around the area shelters and have them put you on a list for certain breeds. You might not get a purebred, but you'd be surprised how many small cross breeds are at the shelters. Or look into a rescue program. Maybe they don't have them for Yorkies, since they are in such demand...but they have them for lots of breeds. And most of the time the adoption fee is more in the $200-300 range. And it might already come to you potty trained!

    Here's a pic of Pete.

No, we don't need a purebred. If it means it costs less, then some sort of combo would be fine!

We would prefer that it doesn't bark all the time, so maybe a Shih Tzu would be better. My wife's brother and sister-in-law have a Shih Tzu-Yorkie mix and it's just fine.

Calling the shelters to get on a list is a good idea too, so we might give that a shot.
