    LCD HDTV recommendations

My dad and I finally got my mom talked into letting us get an HDTV for Christmas, on the condition that it is 32". We want to get a 32", LCD, probably 1080i. Any recommendations? Thanks.

I reccommend bigger, you'll always wish you went bigger, and 32" isn't all that big to begin with. This is assuming it's going in a normal size living room. I went 37" and wish I would've gone 42".

It's kind of a small living room...and we are on a limited budget.

    Re: LCD HDTV recommendations

I have a 32" toshiba regza with the built in dvd player and really like it. I got it off amazon.com

I probably would have gotten a samsung as I liked it a little more than the toshiba but I wanted the dvd player on this tv.

They were both about $650 at the time, Nov. 2007. (the toshiba was $715 w/ the dvd player; $650 without)

If budget is a concern, as it was with me, I have nothing but positive things to say about my Vizio that we got from Sam's Club. You can definitely spend more, and get better TV's possibly (though not all will be better just because they're more $$$), but I really like mine and have relatives that bought them after talking to me and they like them too.

    Re: LCD HDTV recommendations

Unless you are going to get a 1080p HD-DVD player or are really concerned about staying up with the latest technology even though very few television shows are in 1080p, (any?) I would get a cheaper 720p and go to a 37 inch. You really won't see the difference in picture quality but you will really see the difference in size. I think the perceived difference between a 32 and 37inch is much bigger than 37 and 42. I see a little difference between my 37 and a few friends that have a 42 in a similar sized room but the 32s seem tiny. HD deserves to be on the biggest screen possible. I hear that this holiday season might bring some good price drops.

First off, you won't believe the WOW factor when you get HDTV - it's one of those technology improvements that really make a diff.

Second: Sony Bravia. You can't go wrong with Sony.

Third: if you can afford more, get it a larger TV, because 32" widescreen is not the same as 32" old tv standards (4:3).

I agree with both of those, and I went with Samsung 40" 1080p (I thought the picture was just a hair better than Sony's). However, if you've got the coin, drop it on a Sharp Aquos - their picture blows both Samsung's and Sony's away, but you also pay a premium on it.

    Re: LCD HDTV recommendations

For those that want to research flat screen I picked up a free booklet @ Sears by Sharp. It was the most informative booklet I ever came across. Oh, The name of the booklet is DTV transition for Dummies. I think you could go to Dummies .com and maybe get the same info. I would do that but I am close to computer illiterate and I say to old to learn.
