    Olympic VB Question

    I was watching some Womens VB this morning. Each team had one player with a different colored uniform. What does that signify? thanks in advance for the correct information.

    Re: Olympic VB Question

    Each team can designate one "libero" player. This player is a defensive specialist who can substitute at any time for any back row player. They aren't allowed to attack, and can't set a front row attacker. These are the players with the different colored jersey.

    This rule has been adopted here as well and is currently used in high school and college games. Hope that helps!

    Re: Olympic VB Question

    I have another question. Is 3 touches the limit for playing the ball back across the net? I thought I saw some times where it got to 4 and nothing happened, and if so do deflections from blocks not count?

    People sometimes poke fun at Volleyball, but it is the ulitmate team sport. It is very hard for any one player to dominate, if they do not have all 3 elements of execution on offense.

    Pass / Set / Spike

    and a good defense (libero) is what sets up the offense, you need to have a dig or save after the oppents spike with a good pass.

    It is very enjoyable to watch at the highest level of play in the Olympics...

    I enjoy it very much and the athleticism. If I lived in Ames, I'd be going to a lot of women's games.

    PS: can't wait for the Beach Volleyball too {wink, wink}

    I totally agree...its awesome going to volleyball games in Hilton, especially when the girls play Nebraska...those girls hit the ball as hard as I've ever seen! And our girls are finally able to hang with them now!

    My church youth group went to a volleyball tournament every year when I was in high school . I loved playing it. If mens volleyball was available in HS, I'd have played.

    The libero can set the ball to an attacker as long as both feet are behind the 3 meter line.
