Finally Vegas Tickets Are Secured - Now Some Questions

I don't know if this goes on the football board or somewhere else, so my apologies if I guessed wrong.

I finally got a good enough deal on airfare that I pulled the plug last night and reserved flights to Vegas. I saved a lot by going out on Wednesday rather than Thursday to more than pay for an additional night. My travel was complicated by the fact I am spending a week and a half in San Diego after the game and flying back from there.

So my questions are about logistics. The Alumni Association, Cyclone Club and Gridiron Club are jointly holding a tailgate rally that I've signed up for.

I assume it is everyone for themselves on getting to the stadium unless you are part of the Alumni Association package. Is that correct? I will be renting a car on Sunday morning to drive to San Diego, but what I'm trying to figure out is if I should rent it a day early for the drive out to the stadium. Or are there better alternatives? Do they even have parking by the stadium if I do drive?

We have a rental car for when we go out there to drive back and forth from the stadium and what not....I think someone may have mentioned about taking a taxi but they said it was really hard to get one on the way back???

You might also want to check with your hotel to see if they will have a shuttle out there or not

Re: Finally Vegas Tickets Are Secured - Now Some Questions

There is plenty of parking at the stadium if you drive. It's out in the middle of nowhere so there is all sorts of open space immediately around the stadium for parking. As far as cabs, it's also been my experience that it's virtually impossible to get a cab after the game. By that time of night there is just too much money to be made in and around the Strip for a cabbie to make the drive all the way out to the stadium.

Re: Finally Vegas Tickets Are Secured - Now Some Questions

Way back when, I worked an event at Sam Boyd stadium. The company I worked for in LA also ran the concessions for UNLV, so I was sent there to work the UNLV/Wisconsin game because they were expecting an unusually large crowd.

Anyway, there is plenty of parking around the stadium, although if it is like it was then, it was mostly on gravel. The other thing I remember is that it was hot as hell out there in the desert, so be prepared. It is not a large stadium, mabye seats about 35,000 or so. It is out near Henderson, several miles from Vegas, so it would be tough to get a cab after the game I would imagine.

P.S. Watch out for scorpions in the parking lot. lol

We have 15 of us and we are basically renting a bus that will take us and wait for the game to be over, then take us back to the hotel.

If you are staying anywhere near the Flamingo you could probably join us , especially if you bring a couple cases of beer.

Wish I would have read that before I rented a car.

They also run a bus route between the strip and the stadium all day on game days. It costs $5 for a day pass for the bus. The bus stop for the 201A is on the strip right next to the MGM Grand.

As long as they have plenty of parking, it is really nice to load up a car with a cooler full of beer and sandwiches and have a good time. It's kind of a no-brainer for me, but step one is the parking facilities.

There is a ticket vending machine right outside of the MGM.
