    Flogging Molly

Just got home from the Flogging Molly concert... I didn't know too much about the band before tonight, as my buddy invited me to go with him...

Man that was A GREAT SHOW. They got themselves a few new fans tonight...

Anyone else catch the show at the Val Air?

    Re: Flogging Molly

I was there, big Flogging Molly fan. It's incredible to think that they can use so many "classical" instruments to create such amazing rock music.

I thought the first band kinda sucked, the second band (Skybombers) probably would have been decent if I knew the music and of course Flogging Molly was great.

I have to say though, I was very disappointed in the way all the music sounded in the Val Air. The acoustics either really suck or the sound was just way too high because it was nowhere near as good as it should have been.

Yeah... I'm with you on the first band. I actually thought their music was decent, the lead singer was horrible though.

I'm gonna have to go check out the Skybombers. I enjoyed them, and they had a good stage presence.

    Re: Flogging Molly

I've never seen Flogging Molly, but would like to. The last show I saw was Less Than Jake in London. It made me realize that I'm getting a little too old for the pit. I was so dehydrated afterwords...I didn't think I was going to make it.

    Re: Flogging Molly

My son went and came rolling in about 1:30 saying it was the best concert he'd ever seen.

I went to a concert at Val Air once. Acoustics were so bad I won't go back.

You better ask him what he was doing after the concert... I was home by 12:15AM.

I doubt we'll ever go back. It's setup fairly well for us boring people that like to sit and watch instead of flail around but the sound was just terrible. I think our basement would have better acoustics than that place.

I was there, they are an amazing band to see live. I think that they would be a good band to get in for VEISHEA. Even if the crowd didn't know who they were (this wouldn't be different from any other year), most of the crowd would have a great time.

I need to go see them again

LOL... I have a pretty good idea what he was doing. 1:30 is about standard fare for him.

Giving away my "lameness" a little bit - is there still such a thing as a "mosh pit" at those concerts?

    Re: Flogging Molly

I have been to maybe 4-5 shows at Val Air and the acoustics are terrible. The place was built for big band music and dances, not amplified rock and roll.

I guess that also answered my question about the mosh pit.

People's on Court has a pretty decent set-up, but most of the time unless you're there very early you're going to stand. And they bring in some pretty good bands.

I believe this is the same group that ran People's in Ames and they do a nice job. Plus, they like to have The Nada's there. It has a very nice ISU touch to it - I'd encourage everybody in Des Moines to give it a try sometime.

We were going to see Ludo at People's a month or so ago but I couldn't find the time stated anywhere until about 5:30 that night - of course the band played at 5:00

I've been there for Sister Hazel, The Nada's, The BoDeans, and Fat Andy. All were excellent shows.

Plus, there are ISU banners, helmets, and other memorabilia throughout. Feels like home...
